IPA validity period for PR formalities?

Post by max2020 » Mon, 26 Oct 2020 12:42 pm

We have to provide original documents for the appointment as part of the PR formalities. Some of our documents are overseas and will be difficult to get right now in time for the appointment. We can order new originals but this will take a few weeks and will most likely take longer than the 1 month in-principle approval period. Do you know if the ICA can extend the IPA period so we can get our documents?

Hi,

Having same issue here.... Just curious how is your case being managed? Able to extend the IPA? Or any alternative instead of providing hard copy?

Hi,

I had the same challenges re IPA deadline. Answer: Yes, you CAN extend the deadline.

You need to go ICA, simply state the reason you need an extension and it will be extended. In my case, my child was overseas studying. I explained this and was given a 3 month extension. Furthermore, they were kind enough to say come back if I needed another extension - all recognizing the challenges that covid brings.

I hope this helps.

FortuanateMe -

Good question. No, what the officer does is take your old IPA letter and with a pen, write down the NEW due date and sign next to it - as confirmation.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Because I’m currently overseas and requesting the extension through email. According to ica website extension can be done by emailing them. So I’m not sure how they going to make the changes when they don’t have my ipa letter.

Hi All,

Just update, ICA had responded the email for extension and mention the email communication should be used for official extension document.

Cheers.
