Hi, I was wondering if what my employer has done is legal and above board.
I regularly pay my tax bill by giro, and have just ended my contract with an employer, which I presume MOM and IRAS get notified of the situation. They sent a letter to my employer saying by OCt 20th they should pay the outstanding balance of my tax.
I actually am not leaving Singapore but changing jobs, I contacted IRAS to inform them, and they said they would extend the date for payment recovery by 1 month, and that I should get my employment contract, and MOM Ep info to them before that date, and re-instigate my Giro. They also told me to inform my employer not to pay the amount, which i did.
I did exactly as they said, but when I told my employer, he informed me he had already deducted my salary a significant amount and paid it long before the due date, my question can he actually do this without my written consent?, I'm not too familiar with the laws in Singapore in this regard, and insight would be appreciated.
