work termination during PR application

Post by Kim2020 » Wed, 07 Oct 2020 6:28 pm

I would appreciate your advice on the following:

I am a female age 50 American Chinese and have been working in SG for 7 years on EP. My husband is with me and not working. Salary wise I make SG$20k a month and submitted PR application for me and husband separately three months ago. Recent there is a change in work and my role will end in January.

1. What is the chance of our PR application being approved by December 2020?
2. was it a mistake that I had applied for PR for both of us at the same time? I was told I should have only applied for myself and apply the LTVP for him once my PR application is approved.
3. do i need my company to certify my employment after PR is approved but before I get the card?
4. will applying for PEP help (so that I can stay in SG legally for another six months to look for a job) or will it complicate the PR application process? I was told I must inform ICA once my PEP is approved. Will my PR be kicked back into the end of queue as a new case?

Thank you very much for your help.

Three months ago ... so July. I suspect you won't hear back in time ... It is not unheard of that it can take 18 months before you hear back, but i think 9-12 months seems a more likely length.
Why did you apply separately? If he is not working then he has almost no chance of PR, unless he's a Global Investor? Also what ethnicity and age is your husband?
Every time you apply, the application clock starts again. We have many instances of people applying again and again, and still having to wait 9-18 months to get a rejection letter.
Applying for a PEP might help to stay in Singapore, but the question you should be asking everyone here is: what do we think your chance of getting PR is?
Your age would weigh very heavily against you. While anything is possible, I imagine the gahmen is not keen to take on 50+ year olds.

My husband is Hong Kong Chinese and he is 52.
I said wrongly. We applied together under my application. In hindsight I should have applied without him and get him the LTVP instead.

I was hoping to hear from ICA in 4 to 6 months, may be I was too naive. Yes I applied in July.

Based on your comment, I will have slim chance of hearing back from ICA by December and better apply for PEP while looking for a job.

Thank you very much for your advice.

Do you guys have kids? I don't think it makes sense to apply separately. Other can chime in here, but I think the gahmen is looking for family units not individuals - especially if they are married.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that HK passport holders are more likely to be approved that many (of course Malaysian Chinese go to the top of the list). But I think age and no work would work against him

No kids. Since both applications are in we will just wait. No point to withdraw his application now.

Company will inform MOM or IRAS of my departure to calculate final fax owe in early December. Do you think my PR application will be cancelled at that point? Thanks

Yes... just leave it for now. There's not a lot you can do.
Try to get a job in the meantime ... not particularly helpful, I know.
If your husband can work, also get him to look for a job.

One more question: if I apply for PEP and it get approved, when do I need to inform ICA? When the IPA is sent to me or or Only when the PEP is issued? I don’t need to get it issued till end of January. Thanks

Unfortunately there is a good chance that be your pep will not be approved as you essentially will be jobless come January. I also give a very low probability that your PR will be approved. Priority is for you to figure out how to stay in Singapore whole you work out your various long stay alternatives. And to achieve that one of you have to find a job. And fast

Honestly speaking, your outlook is not good. Please make a plan to leave Singapore by end of January unless you are able to find a job within the next three months.

What is the nature of your job? There is a good chance you may get the PEP but not the PR

Do you have a reason to stay in Singapore after your job ends, any family connections here? Singapore tends to prefer people who have a reason to sink roots.

Singapore may also consider your former citizenship depending on how long ago that was (prior to becoming an American), assuming that applies in your case.

I was just informed of the PR rejection via online inquiry. Is there a way to find out why the application was rejected? Would anyone know quickly can we reapply again?

Thank you everyone.

If you don’t mind my asking, what is your reason for wanting to get PR in Singapore?

It probably seems unusual for an older couple like yourselves with no children and no connection to want to sink roots here, especially when you have the right to live/work in the US & HK. How long can you be a PR before you retire?

You will never know the reason for rejection, but in the current environment, their modus operandi is going to focus on maximum employment for Singaporeans.

Reason wont be revealed. You can reapply 6 months after rejection, but based on what you said the chance is going to be very low.
