Why did this forum die?
Re: Why did this forum die?
The problem I have with SMS was posting harmful misinformation about the HK protesters, and then compounding it by refusing to correct it, and then dishing out childish personal insults. That's really shite moderation, sorry.
I not troll/wacko/spammer.

Oh my, that is not what a moderator supposed to do isn't it. As in he needs a dictionary to look up what does being a "moderator" mean to learn how to be a moderator.

You haven't answered shit. You said two moderators were being banned. Which ones are they?eren_jaeger wrote: ↑Tue, 01 Dec 2020 7:40 amAppreciate your regurgitation of the forum rules here, I have already answered to your question. In case you missed it, please read my reply to your fellow mate above.
As to why this forum is dying: Up until 2008, Singapore and Hong Kong were absolutely booming in terms of the number of American, European, and Australian expats coming out this way. These folks made up a large portion of the expats that posted here. Of course, there were also many expats from the sub-continent and elsewhere in Asia but a majority of posters were from elsewhere around the globe.
The 2008 recession dried everything up. Not only did it dry everything up, it set in motion a change in global alignment for many of the companies that sent their expats home. First, what had previously been handled regionally was now being run globally out of offices in the EU, UK, USA, AU. Second, many back office functions previously found in Singapore (IT, accounting, HR) was shipped out to cheaper countries (Malaysia, Philippines, India).
The net effect is that over a decade there has been a drop in employment pass professionals. This has been reflected in the board population with a drop off of total board registrants, and a corresponding increase, percentage wise, of Asian based expats and those wanting to move to Singapore.
Covid hasn't helped, and neither has the populist sentiments that are basically forcing the government to further throttle employment passes through income increases, and potentially, with the implementation of a quota system for employment passes.
I judge that this has somewhat affected the quality of the posts on the board. There are many more "how do I get to Singapore" or "How do I live in India while holding Singapore PR" posts as a percentage of the total, and quite a few less of skilled professionals seeking tax and residency answers.
On top of that, younger generation expats aren't as drawn to forum type boards such as this one, and you can see why the total volume of posts has gone down.
I came over to Singapore and started an IT project management business in 2004, and we grew steadily until 2008 when the recession hit. I stayed in Singapore for 4 more years, until the end of 2012, watching my contracts dry up, a changing IT landscape, and little chance of operating with the same business model because of the drastic IT budget cutbacks in the region. I believe my experience was/is representative of the expat situation as a whole. Many expats I was friends with in Singapore left as well, and for the same reason; no opportunities.
As for my "personality" on the board: I have answered thousands of questions for people. I have little patience for people who say, "How can I do that?" and when you respond with, "You can't do that," they come back with, "Yeh, but how do I do that?" I have little patience for people who spout misinformation, especially when it can affect the decisions of those asking the questions. I also have little patience with people who tell me that they have answered my question when they have not.

Hopefully two new leaves have turned over.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Mon, 30 Nov 2020 3:35 pmCan I have some of whatever it is you are smoking? Since this boards inception there has only been one moderator who was let go and he had never lived or worked in Singapore. Good try, sweetpea, but no cigar.eren_jaeger wrote: ↑Mon, 30 Nov 2020 11:51 amThe reason being because there were two moderators who were particularly anal about anything that people posted in this forum, making this portal fairly toxic and therefore pissed off a lot of members who went to other portals instead. And now these two moderators are being banned from this portal instead.![]()
Again, if you do not understand English, then may I suggest you that it's time to hit up some books and classes? I have little patience too with people whom I have answered their questions, came back to me and tell me I did not answer their shit.

Ahhh... eren_jaeger... aggressive, argumentative, inaccurate, never admits wrong... and adds nothing of substance to the forum. The mods have been through hundreds of folks like you.
I know you'll want the last word... so have at it. I'm done. Out.

I think eren_jaeger & tictoc ought to get a room, after all, they are currently circle-jerking themselves publicly as it is. I'd hahaha as well if it weren't so bloody sad to have to acknowledge that they both are actually adults but masquerading as petulant children.

Re: Why did this forum die?
Oh, and when I reply as a moderator I use a different typeface/colour combination so it's obvious in what capacity I am replying in. Most of the moderators here do the same. We were all normal regulars before we were asked to moderate and were told we could still post and interact as regulars as the case may be.
