I’m a US person so I have to keep my investments US based to avoid PFIC rules, but I generally keep an 80/20 split between US and Emerging Asia. Nothing in Europe or Japan. For US exposure, I mainly invest in VTI - the US total market index. For Asian markets I like the S&P Asia 50 Index, ticker AIA.

My spouse is non-US so most of our investments are held under her name for tax reasons. But I also max out my Roth IRA every year, since that is an even better tax shelter than she is

The last 1 month has been awesome for my portfolio. I was generally bearish most of the year, but I increased my allocation to equities, just before the election from 30% to 40%. Now I wish, I had increased it even more, haha.

I follow Jack Bogle’s advice: maximum 120 minus your age in stocks. I stick with a disciplined DCA at month end. Although admittedly, I cheated and did a few extra in Feb/Mar this year, which is bad even though it’s good... if that makes any sense?

I’m always more nervous about being out of the market when it goes up than being in the market when it goes down. Down will always go up again, plus you get a bargain in the mean time.

LOL there is no inside information needed. The comments are publicly viewable and you are judged by how you pen down your thoughts (yes, you are judged even if you are a moderator)

Maybe a better title for this thread is, how can this forum be improved? Can you elaborate on specific examples that are contributing to this toxic perception?

Not everyone perceives things the same way, what is deemed normal/acceptable in one culture may be abhorrent to another. For example, I do know that some cultures have a brash, in-your-face communication style while others have a very indirect and face-saving style of communication. There are bound to be some crossed wires between those two!

You are the person who stated that two moderators were "being banned". Since I am a moderator and I know all the other moderators, AND, I am not banned, I am truly curious to know which of us is "being banned". Seriously.

PS: We're doubly/triply judged as moderators. Some expect us not to comment upon the threads that are posted. Others expect us to allow complete turds to run roughshod over the forums, yelling "censorship" if a post is deleted. Others are unhappy because we don't delete enough posts.

Please feel free to post whatever you want. Judge away. You will be deleted/banned from the forum for only a couple of reasons.

a) Posting libelous content about another person without corroboration. Post away if it's verifiably true.

b) Advertising

c) Ongoing posting of factually incorrect information.

I can assure you that most other forums have mods that are far more "anal". Otherwise, you're welcome to your judgments. We seek posters with informed, enlightened posts in this forum. We put up with posters who post the trash, the inane, and the repetitive.

I will say that SMS and SE run a tight ship, but they really do come off pretty gruff for anyone just arriving to the forum. No offense intended. Thinking back to my Navy days you guys remind me of salty old warrant officers who have seen everything under the sun. After 20+ years at sea, there isn't really anything magical about it anymore, it's just more of the same problems, different names, different days. Maybe not empathy fatigue, moderation fatigue?

You guys are great and deal with some wacky stuff pretty quickly, but speaking frankly you don't ALWAYS make the best welcome committee, and from what I can tell you two are some of the more active posters so you guys are very often the first person anyone interacts with here. A bad interaction probably means you are the last interaction people have here as well. As for solutions, no clue. I am not going to pretend to understand how this show is run, just telling you what it looks like from here!

EDIT: All that said, I don't think this forum is dying, its just really really slow.
