Sign up for phone plan before arriving?

Hi all, is it possible to sign up for a phone plan online before arriving?

Not prepaid, but a monthly/yearly contract. My assumption is that they require all visa/docs before doing so of course. Has anyone had experience with this and is it do-able?

Is there a reason you don't want a pre-paid? I THINK (call to verify) that you should be able to convert your pre-paid number to an actual account if you so choose, so you don't have to fuss with updating all your contact info everywhere. It won't be free but its not a monumental task either, its a pretty standard request I'd imagine.
