Do Spass holders need to inform employers on their marriage?
Do Spass holders need to inform employers on their marriage?
As above, me and my fiance getting married in Mid Sept, we have already gotten LLE and she is Spass, Does she need to notify her employer? If possible we would like to keep it on the down low from the employer
Re: Do Spass holders need to inform employers on their marriage?

You legal status should always be updated. In particular, IRAS (Inland Revenue). As IRAS needs to be updated, that means the employer must also be updated for the filing of the Annual IR-8As for the earnings for the year. So don't play-play. You will get burned for sure.

HR normally needs the name and contact info of your next of kin for emergency purposes. A lot of company benefits like health insurance also include immediate family members, so their details need to be entered in the system.

Hi all, thanks for your reply and sorry couldn't respond earlier as was busy with wedding preps.
I know that she would need to inform MOM on the changes in marital status, but that can be done online by herself via eponline and she would not need to inform her employer unless MOM informs her employers once they record the changes?
Also we will apply LTVP straight after marriage with our LLE, as there will also be a need to fill her employment details and marriage cert during the LTVP application, will ICA inform MOM on the changes or does she still need to inform MOM separately by herself?

Hi. I also have the same question and happened to find this place. If you don’t mind, could you update me how did the process go? Did your wife need to notify the employer about your profile? Thanks a lot…

I reckon if you do NOT update your employer and they find out about it, it could be grounds for immediate dismissal. If they have company insurance and/or workman's compensation and the employee get hurt or worse, the spouse would not be able to claim a single cent. Anybody who doesn't inform their employer is hiding something and deserves to get burned. Why get married if you do not intend to look out for her wellbeing if it became necessary. And to think the MOM was stupid enough to give you people work passes. doG help your employers.

Are people worried they would be terminated by the company for getting married or pregnant? If so, that is wrongful dismissal and a complaint can be lodged with MOM.
And most companies have health insurance that cover dependents aka spouse and children. Why wouldn’t one want this? Even my foreigner husband on LTVP is covered by my company insurance and paying for a $10 medical bill is better than being charged a foreigner rate.

WP marrying local without permission? That is grounds for immediate dismissal. The law says they have to get permission from the MOM. Not too hard to understand.

Re: Do Spass holders need to inform employers on their marriage?
If OP got the LLE (letter of LTVP eligibility), I find it highly unlikely they married a WP holder…
I sense maybe their company probably has no work-life balance or not family friendly or something.

@sundaymorningstaple Who do you think you are to talk to people this way..
If you were checking before talking, you would now that you don’t need to apply for approval if you currently hold a Spass.
