US Notary in Singapore other than US consulate

Post by sp1360 » Sun, 16 Aug 2020 2:51 am

Has anyone had trouble closing on property in the US these days? My dad is in Singapore and he's trying to purchase a home in US. Everything is fine with loan except that the US consulate is not conducting any notary services due to the pandemic. He's unable to close on the house because we can't get the documents signed and notarized! Just wondering if anyone else had to deal with a similar issue. Thanks!

There are US lawyers here who can notarize.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Thank you very much for your response! Would you happen to know any? I have tried googling but had no luck finding anything

You'll need to ring around and ask. Also check with Singapore Law Society.

That is a major pain in the ass... not having the US embassy available to notarize documents.

I ran into this problem myself while trying to do a US property transaction while living in Singapore.

Because of quirks in the international notary law, foreign notaries are not acceptable... the "minister of oaths", I believe it is called in Singapore. I had to use the US embassy.

Take a look at this website... second bullet: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel ... sular.html

Perhaps you can find a way to get notarized this way.

With respect to PNGMK's idea... any US lawyer in Singapore would still have to have a commission in the USA for the notarization to be valid.

And then there is this: https://usvirtualnotary.com/service/int ... wEEALw_wcB

No idea how it works... but you much check with the title company to see if it will fly.

Good luck.

True MD. Another option is if the OP knows someone here in the US Military some officers are also notaries (under federal law).
