Regretted not getting one of these daytonas ...
don't. i genuinely believe we should wear what we like. Not do it for capital appreciation. Watches are very personal and sentimental (to me)

But it was below 20k when new and can be found in most boutiques. Now you can't even find any sport model anywhere apart from the grey market. These were the days......

Lucky you, unfortunately for me, I haven't even start to build a relationship with any AD when the supply shortage happens.
I heard the prices have dropped a little last few months, will we be expecting to see sport model in boutiques soon? I certainly hope so....

Likely not your first few purchases as you build your account. Wishing you well to getting your dream watch

I stopped wearing a watch around 15 years ago. I have always loved watches and even considered buying a Patek Philippe at one point… that was around the same time I came up with my tried and true saying “when in doubt, do without” and it has served me well. I think back to that moment around 15 years ago in downtown Geneva… and I feel totally happy and content with my decision. It almost felt like a psychological break from material pursuits, which is perhaps even more alluring than the watch.

https://retroworldnews.com/rare-rolex-d ... 5-million/
An extremely rare Rolex Daytona ref. 6264 “John Player Special” has set a new record price for a watch sold in an online auction. At least 133 pieces in 18k gold were made but only a handful of Rolex Daytona John Player Special watches (made during early production runs of this batch) exist and they rarely appear for sale; hence, this edition sold for a record for £1,215,000 (or $1,545,723) at the recent Sotheby’s auction.
“It is difficult to overstate the rarity of an 18-carat yellow gold 6264 and the fascination it rouses among vintage watch collectors. ‘Holy grail’ and ‘icon’ are often used to describe the Daytona JPS.” – Sam Hines, Worldwide Head of Sotheby’s Watches
Nobody on this forum can afford a decent watch. You're wasting your time with this lot

It reminds me of when I inherited my grandfather's watch. It wasn't a Rolex or a Patek Philippe, but it held immense sentimental value. Watches, to me, are like time capsules, carrying memories and stories.
You're just parroting one of those HSBC adverts.
Why would a watch be any more of a time capsule, carrying memories, than your grandfather's old socks?
Proust said smell is the strongest trigger of old memories. And that guy knew a thing or two!

That's quite a staggering price tag for the Rolex Daytona JPS! The rarity and historical significance of certain watch editions like this can really drive up their value among collectors.

It has been so many years and prices are still high for the Daytona in the grey market.
This is due to the Rolex boutiques never has ready stock or are reserved for their vvip. Mere mortals have no chance to buy at retail prices.
