Singaporean marrying a foreigner
Singaporean marrying a foreigner
I’m a S’porean planning to marry my gf who is a Malaysian in 2 years time. I would like to ask if it’s easier to ask her to work in SG before the marriage and seek approval from MOM or marry her first and apply for the LTVP subsequently?

Re: Singaporean marrying a foreigner
Hi, I’m aware about the PMLE but I just want to clarify whether if it’s risky to let her work here in SG first before we got married. Read somewhere that a work permit holder might get banned from entering SG for years if MOM rejected the marriage approval.Correct me if I’m wrong ya

Re: Singaporean marrying a foreigner
If she works here on a work permit then you need to get approval before you can marry.

Re: Singaporean marrying a foreigner
If you get married in Malaysia and she has NEVER worked in Singapore on a Work Permit (WP) or as a domestic on a WP then there is no real issue although it is still advisable to get the PMLE as things are tightening up everywhere. However, permission from MOM is not required if she has never held a WP (even from 10+ years ago). But if you bring her to Singapore and she gets a WP before your marriage then you need to get permission from the MOM as well.

Mike, try reading the italicized portion. Permission is NOT required if she has NEVER held a WP. I think it's correct. IF it's "she EVER held a WP" then MOM permission must be granted. I have a grand-niece who has been living with me for 11 years (she's 12 at the moment) because of my nephew marrying a former pinoy WP holder in the 'peens and not realizing she had worked years before in Singapore on a WP. The baby was born here and as the father was SGC the baby was Singaporean by birth. after an initial 1 years LTVP to allow the baby to be born here (potential cannon fodder), they refused to renew her LTVP and sent her packing back to the 'peens. I've been raising the girl ever since.
