SIA finally refunded my summer flights they cancelled

Post by PNGMK » Sat, 01 Aug 2020 9:16 am

We were due to fly out June 1 and return June 26. SIA had cancelled the flights so I put in a claim for a full refund (cash, not vouchers). They finally sent an email stating the money would be refunded in 4 weeks yesterday the 31st of July.

Others in the same boat seem to have gotten their money about the same - 4 weeks after their ghost flights.

You're lucky, most airlines seem to be giving credits rather than refunds.

Yes - that's what happened with my KLM flights, I was told I would be sent a voucher and of course it never showed up so I was a bit leery of taking a non existent voucher. I doubt KLM will last another 3 months anyways.

PS: Logged into KLM and my voucher was there - valid until Dec 2021 though - hopefully KLM will extend them further out.

While the information on SIA is a bit buried my understanding is that a condition of them taking money from the Govt is that they had to issue refunds in cash. Of course their voucher deal looked quite good as well (I think they were offering $500 extra) but I am not sure I can use SIA for the next flight/s so...

Take the cash if it's available, nothing is certain in aviation anymore.

I have a friend in SIA and all along they were told jobs were safe, until they weren't. Every time I meet him the story has changed. He's no longer confident and the guys on EP's are really worried, assuming they are still around. Foreign cabin crew have already gone.

The EP guys will be gone in weeks if not days. The whole premise of SIA operating as a hub has just taken a hit with clear indications that passengers either transited infected or became infected in the hub here.

Thankfully it's a refund and not credits/vouchers.

I had a beer with a French pilot on EP about 2 weeks back. He has a wife and 4 kids to support so was justifiably worried about his future. Two weeks back things looked much better than now. I do wish him the best.

Funny how 6 months ago being a pilot was considered a reasonably secure position.
