Fewer marriages, more divorces last year

Post by abbby » Tue, 28 Jul 2020 11:21 am

Could be worse this Covid19 year, pressure's on, more stress on work, people losing their jobs, job insecurities, putting food on the table...the list goes on. I am not surprised if this year's figures are way much higher than 2019.

To add to this I've been seeing anecdotal stories that people are just doing it that much either. (It = sex). I guess stress, frustration and worries are over whelming.

Given the restrictions on crowds/ gatherings, it is no surprise that weddings are down. Brides won’t be having their dream day, and banquets have no chance for cost recovery.

Feel sorry for any couple unable to get full refunds on weddings booked these next 2 years...

yeah I think many marry for the HDB flats. I had a friend who married to get the flat and ended up divorcing because the objective of marrying was wrong.

Actually HDB should not treat it like an investment. Literally is build for a home a public housing there

Sg likes to promote family values so wants to encourage young people to marry and breed. HDB availability is just another social engineering mechanism. You would have thought that they would have learned by other failures*, but I guess not.

*China one baby policy and the Sg sterilization programme to name a couple.
