Part of the process but better than a rejection!
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

I updated the ICA with salary paid, job contract etc.

The ICA contacted me last week and asked for a CV for my spouse and parents, as well as my highest educational transcript and certificate.

Not sure if that’s a positive sign or it’s just part of the process. It’s been pending for 10 months thus far.
Part of process when they need to analyse more. Thats all

I’m sure they had to hold their nose and approve it, since you’ve married a local 😑 Aiyo, jialat! 😂

Seriously though, congrats! And don’t be a stranger on this forum. There are always things to learn and share.

Congrats, Sunjackal! That’s one weight off your shoulders. You have a SC spouse and a child so it checked the boxes.

Haven’t checked in for a while.

I got my PR status officially at the end of May. Was exempted from NS (I guess that’s standard? - although I was half hoping they’d ask me to serve it. I feel like it would be fairer on my son).

The last hurdle, and it isn’t really a hurdle, is waiting for my employment contract to come up so I can resign as a PR and not have an expiration date!

Hope everyone is well.

If you’re a spouse of a Singaporean and applied via family ties scheme, it’s usually an exemption from NS.

If you really want to serve NS, there’s always the Volunteer Corps.

Actually I was told by an ICA officer that someone who is approved under family ties "might" be called up for NS "if" MINDEF chooses to. However, in practice, they don't - at least that's been the norm so far.

That’s why I said “usually exempted”.

Unless we come across a case where the SC-NR couple married really young right after JC or something in their late teens/early 20s then applied PR via FTS… but we have not heard of those yet.

You mean someone can get called up to serve after they're past enlistment age?

Funnily enough, two of our family friends met while attending RI 30 years ago. Husband was Indonesian, wife Singaporean. Got married a year or two after leaving JC. No idea if he was called to serve NS though, we've never talked about it.

Talking about someone who is less than 40 years old.

This is fact. I was told the same thing when I got my PR. But as I was already well past forty when I got my PR it was never an issue even though I volunteered my services as a Instructor Pilot (Rotary Wing) if they need one with combat experience. But I was getting close to Officer retirement age here (50 for officers) so was thanked but not required. But they did confirm that had I been in my mid-30s (the age when I arrived here), in a national emergency/police action if I'd have been a PR I could have been called up as a last resort (it's on the books but unknown if anyone has even been actually called up in modern times.)
