i'm close to losing it.
the past 3 days i've wanted to run out of the room/hotel to get some fresh air.
i've been shepherded from the plane to the hotel room since i landed at changi airport.
i'm freak dyin man. my brain literally hurts (headache) from the covid test because i was injured during swabbing.
the covid swabber is not trained at all. i'm tired of fielding calls. i can't even courier signed paperwork out via the hotel because nothing can leave my room...
which is untrue because my clothes can get laundered, my food boxes go out, as do my trash bags.
after explaining the illogicality of "nothing can leave your room!" i was then able to get a sliver of hope.
the only way is to call the SHN hotline which is manned by utterly useless people at MCYF (whatever they're called now) to get someone at MOH to approve, then have SHN hotline be notified to notify STB of the approval, and STB will contact the hotel duty manager, whom will then contact me...
holy smokes. success.
THEN I MADE A MISTAKE USING SINGPOST SPEEDPOST EXPRESS because i assumed the national mail service would be my best bet. so wrong. (there's no service delays listed for malaysia on the website)
it took one full freak week for 3 sheets of paper to reach Labuan from Singapore via Singpost's delivery agent for that area... DHL... probably via a cessna 172 or something real slow and with a limited range.
i would post the exchange i had with singpost/speedpost but that'd drive me crazy all over again.
i'm tired of people saying it's a good deal i'm getting put up at a fancy hotel with everything provided.
it's freak up man. there's no makeup/cleaning service for 15 days. i'm a guy. i think i'm past my college phase of having to endure a bathroom that hasn't been cleaned for more than a week.
i tried using coke in the commode. it was a mistake.
and i think i've put on more than a few pounds.
the only thing i'm grateful is that they put me in a twin and i have plenty of space, 2 beds, and a clean-looking kettle.
i'm thankful my wife ground a small bag of coffee beans for me and also packed me a bag of filter paper, dripper, and my favorite coffee cup.
but man, i gotta get the heck outta here man.
owww the back of my nose hurts so much.

my room has no balcony, and no windows that open. i get more internal space for my bags.
or more space to go crazy. depends on how i look at it.
the hotel staff are also very nice.

You have my complete sympathy. I am talking with a friend who is working offshore. He has to go through 3 quarantines to do a job offshore. 1 in Korea, 1 in Russia (Sakhilin) and 1 back in Thailand when he gets home - PROVIDED he doesn't transit anywhere which required another 14 day quarantine. They pay him the whole time but that's not the point anymore.

Congrats. As for my friend I suspect he will regret it. Esp if he catches the Coof.

Damn, what a turn-off.
I was considering an urgent business trip to Europe later this year - however, after reading this SHN hotel report, I'm convinced overseas travel is a very bad idea, except for bona fide emergencies.
Getting an Entry Approval for EP holders to come back in is not a done deal either. Imagine potentially being stuck for months overseas if MOM puts you at the back of the queue.
The official advice is still to >defer all travel<. So that's what we're dealing with.
Which means that for most ends & purposes, we're probably all stuck here until 2022. Unreal.

The international travel system is based on trust. No one trusts each other right now. When I was a child growing up in PNG we only went back on home leave every 4 years. The Americans only went back every 5 years due to the cost. I heard that some poorer folks only went back in a box. A year or two is nothing.

Quite revealing really.
1. EU countries trust each other.
2. The rest of the planet trust nobody.

Well I am hoping that the APEC or ASEAN block manage to come up with a solution as well.

Me too. When you can't leave Sg you realise there isn't really that much here.

(crickets)
SHN in own home travellers to be fitted with wearable device:
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/ ... outside-of
Wishful thinking, but if this would facilitate a wider list cleared for SHN in your own home, it'd be great.
Germany, HK & Japan was recently kicked off the list, so more people are ending up in SHN hotels.

Did you see the article in the paper (Sunday I think) about the Singapore gf who flew to Belgrade to get some action from her Eurotrash bf? Apparently Belgrade is completely open - both for tourists and there is no quarantine requirement. It's rapidly becoming "the place to meet" for people who can't get here from somewhere or for folk from Singapore who can't get "there".

Ha - young lovers!
I believe there's actually several countries w/limited or no restrictions at all (on immigration, quarantine, testing) - Albania, Brazil, FYROM, Maldives, Mexico, Serbia, Turkey - even US is open from quite a few countries...

I’m taking this as a positive sign that the flight industry is coming back, perhaps now it is finally safe to say that SG is reopened for good.
