There are only ~3MM local born SC. Even less if you trace back a few gen. There are a LOT of imported SC/SPR.
Well for one, that i can think of, there wasn't any avenue in the past for such views to fester.
The online mob grew mainly from the advent of technology.
Edit: Actually to think of it, populism has been on the rise since FB/Social media got big.
- The commonly cited examples are Brexit and Trump.
- Nobody pointed out that in 2014, it was Hindu Nationalism [populism?] that led to Modi's rise.

I was counting the dependents as well. When you send back an EP holder, typically the trailing spouse and 1 or 2 kids also leave. Leaving vacant rentals and school places. So there are implications of such sudden moves.

Looks like 49% doesn't care about foreigners in Singapore either way ("neutral"), so that's not a negative.
What caught my attention, is 1 out of 5 of the general population (1 out of 3 among the unemployed) thinks Singapore should revert to a purely domestic economy. (pre-1819 presumably)
"It is better for Singapore not to be a regional hub, so we can reduce the number of foreigners, even if this means fewer job opportunities for Singaporeans"
Isn't this in line with SDP's & several other opposition parties policy?

Yes SDP and PVP etc are all anti foreigner. Quite unrealistic and short sighted as it will only appeal to a smaller % of their voter base.

We went to Vivocity and Sentosa yesterday. Vivocity was quite buzzing while sentosa was very quiet. I think Singapore needs to start transitioning towards internal consumption, than relying on tourists. Tourists may not comeback for a while. In the meantime, it is the residents who should be incentivized to go to out and spend.

^ not to boast but I've gone from saving around 5k a month pre Covid to close to 12k a month. There just isn't that much to spend it on domestically? New car? Bleh. New house? No thanks. Share? Meh. The only thing we so spend lot more on is that we now eat out at least two times a week in more upmarket places. I figure that our summer holidays normally cost about 12k so I'm ok spending $500 or more a month extra on good food in good restaraunts. I'm truly experiencing deflation for the first time in my life.

Our expenses are quite low these days and we are saving more. This is bad for the economy in general.

Our savings increased a lot too recently and investments did well too. Although I hope C19 is over soon.

I'm thinking of doing a boat skipper's license here and buying a used boat just to get out a bit more... I'd have never considered that pre Covid.

I track my monthly expenses and savings in an excel sheet, since last 6 years now.
Last 12 months total expense = 47.7k
Previous 12 months total expense = 57.5k
I am naturally frugal person, and even I managed to save 10k in last 12 months, over same prior period!
Once we cross december period, this gap will increase even more, because, I will have full 12 months with no vacation. Our last vacation was in December.

I can't believe how small a margin (53.41%) saved the next PM designate from getting kicked out of parliament (& government)...

Not entirely convinced. His leaked audios show that he has enemies within.
That itself has dented whatever popularity he used to have.
I’d put my money on the dark horse, Lawrence
