Shipping personal effects to Singapore??

Post by ophelia » Wed, 16 Mar 2005 7:39 pm

Hi, We currently live in Thailand and have our main residence in England. But are opening up our new company in Singapore April /May 2005.
We need to sell our UK property and therefore will have to pack all our belongings onto a container bound for Singapore, no problem!

As we have been living in Bangkok for the past 14 months, we have also amassed at least 6 - 9 cubic metres of furniture and goods which we also want to ship to our new home in Singapore.
Are we able to ship both these containers into Singapore independently (one from Thailand, one from England) and be able to claim GST relief on both shipments, as the goods imported are our personal belongings? Or would it be more beneficial for us to import using my name for one shipment and my partners name for the other?

Has anybody else lived the nomadic life and found themselves in this situation? Any help anybody can offer would be greatly appreciated. We plan to ship the Thai container load at the end of this month. The UK will be following 3 weeks later.

Thanks in advance.

Steve
