How's day 1 of opening the local economy?

Post by abbby » Fri, 19 Jun 2020 9:49 am

How's your day 1 today? Anyone out at malls? Is there a limit? I am still hesitant to step out because of the limitation of crowd, although I need to get things done..

Don't know about the economy the beaches are open, people are fishing and there were a few paddlers out too.

World looks just a little brighter today.

My gym was open from 7 this morning. Up until 8 am, there was just me and a couple of other lunatics. After 8, more people came in but it wasn't so bad. The local coffee shop next door had a few diners but all seemed to be obeying the rules - those not eating were wearing masks. But it's very early days yet...

I've decamped to my local bar/restaurant. I'm working from here for the afternoon. So nice to get out of the house. I'm the only customer now but they are pretty much fully booked for later. The new table spacing is actually pretty good, better than before.

I went to NEX around 2:30 yesterday afternoon (Thursday). I find going there after the lunch hour but before the evening off from work crowd is the least crowded time that has fully (more or less) stocked shelves. I was going at 05:30 hrs but half the shelves were empty. I deliberately put off going on my normal Tuesday afternoon, figuring if I go on Thursday I'll be in good shape for the weekend and would not have to venture into the arena for the covidiot games. While I'm not really scared to venture out, I didn't get to be this age without using common sense (even if I picked dangerous occupations to work in). Discretion is the better part of valour. Add insult to injury, we have a 28 case Dengue Cluster around our estate (none within but surrounding due to a fallow basement construction of a new condo cluster in what used to be the neighbouring HUDC estate that went en bloc two years ago). Six days ago the cluster was 18 cases over a 6 block area, now 28 over around 12 blocks add that to the resident and neighbouring covidiots, I'm holing up here!

I relied on online shopping long before the covid so can not comment on the malls but I clearly noticed a tremendous boost in No of, pardonne moi, idiots, on the roads. It was always bad, but now many people who stayed away from driving for 2 months are back on the roads swarming and surely this break has not improved their driving qualities.

You forgot *during* lockdown as well.

I encountered my share of locals who couldn't handle the empty roads. Seems like the speed limit had suddenly gained +50% overnight, reckless driving everywhere. 2 months ago I remember bicycling down South Buona Vista Road right after midnight. Suddenly around the corner came 3 local bengs in their Civic's etc, screeching tires & losing control in the sharp turn almost crossing into my lane & myself.

This afternoon driving along Holland Road, from a green light at the Peirce Road intersection, 2 guys next to me in an M3 & 911, floored it & made it across the flyover at +130 km/h, on a wet road.

The service road in Holland Village is a nightmare!

Good that the authorities are re-opening the roads to curb the crowd, these covidiots wish to start another cluster and another CB?

There were something like 11 accidents the first morning of reopening according to the local rag.
