How much is ur utilities bill during the wfh period

Post by cookie_expat » Sat, 13 Jun 2020 2:10 pm

Usually mine was about $60-$80
But just got a shock when I received a $200 utilities bill for last month's, yikes.

Just for comparison, anyone care to share what's their bill like during this wfh period?

My water dropped by 2/3!!!!! (seriously from $100 to $33 and that's on an actual reading). The reason? We sent our helper back when this all broke out. I think she was not using water efficiently. Power seems about the same but we do NOT use aircon during the day (and if we do it's in one room at 28 deg just to cut the humidity). Also we use a dishwasher now (machine) since the maid left so I'm surprised on both accounts. Aircon is a savage use of power.

Since 3 months now we are getting estimated bills, based on the old average prior to Covid. We will be in for a major shock once the reading is actually taken.

You see the * for Apr, May, Jun? That means estimated:

By the way, do you guys use OEM for electricity. Look it up, it is way cheaper than SP services rate. I was with Sembcorp, but will be switching to SP services wholesale from August, apparently rates are cheap and best part there is no lock period, like the OEMs.

I use Sembcorp but will look at SP wholesale later (I have no lock in period).

Search for HWZ OEM. They have done tonnes of research on it and have stats for 2 years now and SP Wholesale prices have consistently been cheaper than the lowest OEM price.

OK - honestly thought the effort to switch is too much for me.

You just have to email Sembcorp and tell them to transfer you to SP Wholesale and they will handle everything. There is 2 months lead time though.

My bill has gone down as my wife is outside Sg for the duration of Covid. I don't use aircon or hot water and my computers were already on 24/7 before the wfh thing started.

How do you get by without hot water?

I remember at the height of Covid there were months where our electricity bill was around $200 a month. That's about the highest it's ever been, it's come down a bit since then as we spend more time out of the house.

Our combined water+electric last month was $462, roughly $450-500 average of late. Over the past 10 years it’s been $350-400, only recently it’s gone up. We mostly use A/C at night, and have a total of 5 in our household including the hired help.

I haven’t bothered to move away from SP Services, and now when I compare, it seems any advantages have evaporated - so no point changing. Seems any savings from changing would have been short lived, and that doesn’t surprise me. Maybe I’m cynical, but more often than not, the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze.

We still use SP too - honestly can't be bothered to change.
