flat battery
flat battery
Left my motorcycle for 1.5 month with two short rides (20km or so), the last one 1 month ago and the battery was deeply discharged (<5V). Took it home and charged it back (probably needs at least 3 cycles to recover), wanted to measure the idle current but the battery in the amperometer also got flat
and I didn't bother to go back home for another one. How much the gantry reader (IU) drains? I see it directly connected to the battery.

Re: flat battery
Is your battery recharge rate too low?
Batteries typically last about 2 years. If you can ask the workshop to hook it up, they can check for you.
Newer batteries will retain the charge for a longer period.

Re: flat battery
IU supposedly doesn't draw much but I always re-wire them to the switched circuit side. Batteries here only last 2 to 4 years due to the heat IMO. Also a lot of parasitic loads in modern bikes (alarms and ECU's and USB outlets that aren't switched off for example).

Re: flat battery
My battery would go flat in about 3 weeks with no riding. I rewired the UI to allow me to unplug it. Problem solved. So maybe they pull a little more power than you think. My unit is at least 8 years old so maybe it's just old tech.
Re: flat battery
Mine is 2yo, the battery is practically new (2-3 months old) - changed it after 1.5y (1-3y life span in my experience, perhaps because I commute daily so daily overheating). Pity I didn't check the current, it could be pretty clear what drains the bike alone and what the IU.
Re: flat battery
The big 1st gen IU are crap.
