I think (forgive me if I am incorrect) sms meant Singaporeans cannot be trusted to act responsibly (in context of masks), not Singaporeans are not to be trusted in a more literal sense.

Re: When do you think we can stop wearing masks?
A good example of what I am talking about. This morning I had to go to the Hougang Polyclinice for my HBP bloodtest. So as I opened up the door, lots of loud talking and laughing from the void deck below. as I reached the bottom of the staircase (I only live on the 2nd floor so don't usually use the lift unless carrying heavy goods) I look to see where the noise was coming from. There, sitting at a table that was covered with the restriction tape were three locals having their breakfast no masks on and having a good time. These were definitely NOT delivery or taxi driver. Two men and a woman (middle aged - 40's maybe). all sitting close together at the end of the six seat rectangular table. I though about taking a clip and sending it to the OneService app. But then just said the hell with it. Some people just cannot learn.

Yes, I assume it was more in general about all the CB rules, wearing masks being one of the items only. And that's exactly my point that actually with the controls in place with reporting your neighbours and giving fines and prosecuting. Still the numbers of rule breakers are minimal and here there's is a good chance to get caught compared to any other country (maybe except China, Taiwan Korea); not to mention the rules are much stricter that should naturally cause more rule breaking as protests or simply by accidentmartincymru wrote: ↑Fri, 29 May 2020 1:41 pmI think (forgive me if I am incorrect) sms meant Singaporeans cannot be trusted to act responsibly (in context of masks), not Singaporeans are not to be trusted in a more literal sense.

Actually the number of rule breakers is huge. Living in a HDB housing estate and being always on the watch (I'm a C.O.P. member and an RC member of 12 years) the number of violators is ridiculous. The number of mask wearers with the masks under their chins is unbelievable. Cigarette manufacturers are making a killing right now as smoking has increased exponentially (they walk around all over the place with a cigarette hanging out of their mouth. Or, they just plain ignore the rules if they are seniors (even if they are seniors only according to their NRIC - like me for instance). Fortunately, most others turn a blind eye to it unless they are actually assigned to those kinds of duty. Safe distancing is the other joke here.

Suspect mainly Japan, Taiwan and possibly S Korea are the only populations that can be trusted to wear a mask without being cajoled...

A few people in a what few thousand people hdb block. I would still call it a small fraction, would it reach 1,% of population ? Obviously not a big impact as the spreading is 0-5 cases per day now outside of the dormitories.
So not a big impact those rule breakers are having. So either it doesn't matter or there really aren't that many of them to have a real impact.

From 2 June my company is starting to phase back office working. One of the conditions is a mask at all times in an already social distanced environment. 10 hours at a desk wearing a mask. It just shows how out of touch the Sg authorities really are.
I'll be staying at home.

Ditto...10 hrs with a mask, pass.
I won't be going back to the office either until masks aren't mandatory; our company is generally fine with WFH, also pre-virus so that makes it easier of course.
So I reckon earliest full time return to the office is end-2020...?
Re: When do you think we can stop wearing masks?
Is it possible that this applies mainly in your housing estate? I agree that there seem to be a lot more smokers now, but the ones in my area are pretty cautious. Most smoke on their own, but on the rare occasion when I see 2 at a time, they're clearly keeping at least 2 metres away from each other. I feel that the people around here are generally careful too. Yesterday, I saw someone (a non-smoker!) wearing a mask under his chin for the first time around in my housing estate. But it was a deliveryman who was by himself in the lift coming down. When I got in the lift too, he put it on right away, said very apologetically that he was feeling very hot and sweaty and wanted a short break, and shuffled as far away as he could.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Fri, 29 May 2020 3:02 pmActually the number of rule breakers is huge. That's been my observation too.

Maybe SMS lives in a rough neighbourhood!

Re: When do you think we can stop wearing masks?
I see people not following the simple rules each time I step out my apartment so I am pretty sure SMS is right. Just look around at all the people wearing the masks nose out or not wearing at all. Are they really all exercising? But I see some improvement over past 2-3 weeks.

For me, it's whatever the authorities impose.
