When do you think we can stop wearing masks?
When do you think we can stop wearing masks?
I understand that they reduce the risk of getting the virus somewhat, but given how quickly the coronavirus can spread, does this mean we're all pretty much doomed to wear masks while outside until there are 0 cases islandwide?
Re: When do you think we can stop wearing masks?
Never underestimate the abilities of humans to transmit diseases. At least we have a chance of getting close to zero.
Look at syphilis, all these goddamn condoms and cheap antibiotics to eradicate it. Can we succeed? Hell no...

Not sure about this, but are prosecutions taking place where the only offence is not wearing a mask outdoors? If so then
Aside, in many countries mask wearing outside is voluntary, the "new norm".

Re: When do you think we can stop wearing masks?
I'm afraid it'll probably be mandatory for some time, even beyond a zero case period. The approach here is very cautious.
I absolutely hate wearing the things. No choice unfortunately, it's the law & people have been arrested for non-compliance. Personally I've even adapted my social patterns to deliberately minimise wearing them, by only leaving the apartment if I absolutely need to, reducing supermarket visits to the bare minimum. Which might be the whole point in the first place, so I guess masks do work!

Strenuous bicycle exercise in the late evening only (sans mask according to regulations) on empty streets, to minimise any exposure.
I do think outdoor mask wearing 24/7 is somewhat superfluous, especially when there's noone else around. But I guess they're going all out for now.
Re: When do you think we can stop wearing masks?
I think the mask rule may stay till a vaccine is found. So I guess the whole year might be a masking up year. Really uncomfortable and hard to breathe, and I would only do quick essential errands and head home, it's just feeling too difficult to breathe,

I just hope they moderate its compulsory usage a bit, especially outdoors use, which really feels like an overreach.
Compulsory mask usage until a vaccine is found would also entail no dine-in for another 12-18 months, which is too severe. No other country is doing that.

Yup..I certainly hope not too...I can't imagine watching a movie with a mask on, or out and about but cannot dine out.BigginHill wrote: ↑Wed, 27 May 2020 12:06 pmI just hope they moderate its compulsory usage a bit, especially outdoors use, which really feels like an overreach.

I wish we could be trusted to take sensible precautions, instead of being forced to obey the letter of the law. We already do, to some extent.
If I'm not wrong, we're supposed to wear masks at the workplace when we return to work, right? But if we can't eat out, doesn't that mean people will be taking their lunch in the office pantry? I haven't heard from my company on this yet, but it seems likely. Since people can be trusted to take sensible precautions in this case, why not others...?

Singaporeans, by far and large, cannot be trusted. There has been enough online vids and pics as proof of that. If they were smart they would eat at their desks even though some employers forbid it in the past.

Picked up my new free mask yesterday. It's good for 30 washes which I guess is 1 - 1.5 months. If they offer a new one in a months time then expect mask wearing to carry on. If not maybe it means mask wearing will cease. Maybe.
That's as scientific approach as I've seen anywhere else.

So if by your opinion Singaporeans cannot be trusted to follow the rules, who in this world would you trust to follow orders? Your US countrymen? North Koreans ?sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Thu, 28 May 2020 12:06 amSingaporeans, by far and large, cannot be trusted. There has been enough online vids and pics as proof of that. I mean seriuosly, if there is a country where people follow the rules as a majority and neighbours will snitch you if you don't, North Korea is the leader but the following ones ...

We were not talking about all other countries. We were talking about Singapore. I was addressing Singapore. You sound like a Singaporean, if you don't like what you hear, you deflect by trying to compare with other countries that are not even being discussed.ProvenPracticalFlexible wrote: ↑Thu, 28 May 2020 11:42 pmSo if by your opinion Singaporeans cannot be trusted to follow the rules, who in this world would you trust to follow orders?
