Is a relocation consultant necessary?

We are moving soon to Singapore (family of 4). Not having moved internationally before, I'm unsure what a relocation consultant actually does and whether or not we should insist the hiring company get us one (they don't usually offer them to expats). What's the consensus out there?

If you're company is paying you to move out here, then yes, ask for it. I think it's pretty standard. If you have to foot the bill for it, then pass on it.
