Airfryer

Does anyone own an airfryer? Is it good? Can you airfry nuggets, fries and still taste good?

Yes.
Yes.
Yes for nuggets, have not tried fries.

A basic Philips model. Got it from a friend of mine and since consider one of the best kitchen appliances I ever owned. Anything deep frozen to fried ready in a matter of minutes.

Recently I also bough this:

as a more healthy alternative to a microwave. So far no complaints. Works as expected.

Nuggets and chicken wings are great especially without having to use any oil. I have a basic entry model that is a couple of years old. Mayer MMAF88

I would add that it also works great for frying fatty meat cuts like lamb chops, or fish like salmon.

Quick and easy way to cook 1-2 people sets fast without the mess of frying on pan.

Thanks guys, I'll probably get the basic airfryer model to try out. Always figuring out how to get nuggets without the guilt.

@x9200 : The Mayer air oven looks interesting too, works like a mini oven? Dishes in the video came out looking great...How much did you buy it for?

Yes, its a mini oven with very strong forced convection and some interesting functions like a bottom side mechanical stirrer. I paid I believe $S150-155 after some discounts. Regular price was $S160-170.

I definitely recommend Phillips Airfryers. I bought one after considering for quite some time since it takes up a lot of counter space. Have used it nearly every day since. I find it especially good for preparing food that requires dry heat- fries, dumplings, even reheating leftovers. The best part is it is healthy and fuss-free. I toss my fries into the air fryer, set the temperature and timer, and leave it to cook. No oil required at all. The result is a bowl of crispy, hot, fluffy of the inside fries that are indistinguishable from those made in a deep-fryer. If you use parchment paper to line the inside of the cabin, no cleanup is required at all. The best kitchen gadget I own, by far!

Just got one too a few weeks back. But I'm not sure it's really a "fryer" as such. The stuff we cooked in it so far came out looking and tasting the same as if we'd grilled it.

I mean, I know eating too much fried food isn't very good for you, let alone deep-fried food, but it just tastes real shiok. This is why we got the air "fryer", kinda expecting that it would emulate the taste of frying without the potentially harmful oil.

But the taste isn't really the same as fried food. Air fried french fries taste more like the oven fries that are available these days, yeah, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Haven't tried chicken, but I'd be surprised if it tastes the same after air frying as it does frying in some butter.

Perhaps I'm missing something...
