LTVP query - post-EP COVID19

Post by Tom_75 » Tue, 14 Apr 2020 11:02 am

Hello fine forum people! My partner and I moved to Singapore from the UK last year. Both of us have our own EPs. Unfortunately due to the current conditions created by the the COVID-19 virus, my employment will be terminated and EP cancelled by May 6th.

My partner and I are not married, but have lived together for 2.5 years (including 6 months in Singapore). We require an affidavit of cohabitation as a common-law certificate for the LTVP process, however this must be notarised in the UK. And we can't get to the UK right now.

Will the MoM accept a local notarised affidavit, given that we live here together and cannot travel back to the UK? Has anyone heard about extenuating circumstances surrounding COVID and applying for an LTVP? Or are there situations where LTVPs have been issued to people living together and can clearly demonstrate they have lived together before moving to Singapore?

Thank you for any and all help!
Tom

So I had a call from MoM. During this crisis I can apparently get the affidavit notarised at the British High Commission, and just make the point in the application process that we cannot travel back to the UK. FYI in case anyone has the same issue!

That is good to hear Tom_75. Thanks. I'm sure some of our other readers may find that useful.

Hi Tom_75 I'm in a similar position. On the British High Commission website it says

"Documents originating in Singapore do not have to be legalised by the British High Commission before they can be accepted in the UK."

Were you able to get your LTVP?
Was your affidavit sworn in Singapore?
Did the British High Commission notarise it?

Hoping you had a happy outcome!
