Website "queue". What is this?

Post by martincymru » Thu, 02 Apr 2020 3:25 pm

"You have been, or are about to be, assigned a place in the queue. The reason you are now in the queue is either because the website you want to access is not yet open for visitors, or because the website has a large number of users all wanting access at the same time."

The queue in RedMart stopped this morning, I've been trying to get into the queue for a week. Says to try on Saturday as they are revamping for the increase in business. People ARE staying home and trying to stay out of the Malls, but apparently the online business models are capable of handling the volume and/or not enough drivers & vehicles to handle the volume. Redmart had four days blocked solid and Saturday onward was not even listed aside from the date.

Nothing general - it's site specific, somebody designed the site this way. Each web server has some capacity (number of acceptable connections) and even if the capacity is not yet reached, each connection and opening some pages etc. slows down the machine hosting the server making it difficult for the users to use. So this is just some smart mechanism implemented to control the No of users and making browsing of the site reasonably comfortable.

@SMS, never seen any queue at Redmart and recently simply no slots. For today, this is the story:
