AUTO-EUROPE; I cancelled booking "no refund"

"Please note that Auto Europe charges no cancellation fee when you inform us of the cancellation at least 48 hours prior to the start of the booked rental date (01.04.20)."

informed them 6 pm Mar 31 2020.

Are they legally entitled to do this?

Is there a means I can stop credit card payment?

looks like you didn't notify them 48 hours in advance, so yes, they are entitled to do that. Stop CC payment? can't answer that one, but I reckon you 'may' but it will probably be disputed by the Car company and if they do, you lose. With your experience with contracts, I'm sure you know this better than most.
