They love eating and drinking in large groups. Italy has the highest percentage of elderly in the EU. Therefore more are susceptible to the virus. Also affecting a lot of younger ones as well, but unsure what is causing that aside from their refusal to use safe distancing as requested.

Yeah, I think they have an ageing population hence the higher percentage of people catching the virus and succumbing to it. It seems the hospitals are overwhelmed by the large numbers.
