Should I Re Apply to A Company That Prev. Rejected Me?

Post by RoundGlass1 » Thu, 12 Mar 2020 10:25 am

Hi!

Recently I have just applied for a job to a company, everything went fine, I got the interview, I finally accepted and they even said that they want to apply an S Pass for me.

But after a few days, they get back to me and saying that they can't apply for my S Pass (I'm a fresh graduate, so my salary is lower than the minimum requirement for S Pass).

I checked through the Self Assessment Test (SAT) from MOM and the test result is that I am eligible for S Pass. So I contacted them again by saying that I still have the possibility of getting the Pass, although the salary is a bit below the min. requirement.

The HR person then replied that due to the general downturn of the industry, they have to rethink about the recruitment for the time being, and so they didn't continue with my application.

Then a week later (today) I saw in one of Singapore job ads that they have an opening for the same position that I applied to!

Should I re-apply to this company?

Looking forward to your insights and feedback!

Thank you so much.

It was probably cheaper to try to find a local as there is a pretty stiff levy for S pass holders which is an added employment cost. Additionally, if you are a fresh grad, It's possible that your were turned down by the MOM for the S pass. The SAT only indicates if you are "eligible to apply" for an S pass. It is not a guarantee that you will be given one.

HR are usually morons, so it's unlikely they'll remember that you applied before.

If you are a graduate of a local autonomous university or polytechnic, I believe you have a decent chance as long as the position matches your field of study and the salary is within the requirement.
