PR Approval 2020

Post by ExpatThrowAway » Mon, 24 Feb 2020 10:31 pm

Kick start with my own profile w/ PR approval granted last week.

Malaysian Chinese 24y/o male irreligious
Engineer $40k/year
Bachelor's Degree (2nd Upper)
No prior FT employment & no history of tax assessment
PR Processing Time: ~4 months
Applied via PTS (Single) under EP, right after I got my 6th month payslip.
Hard copy letter came 4 days after online approval notice.
Btw some of my documentations are in Malay, submitted without translation.

So glad to be away from the messed up political scene in my home country :D

A quick update after completing PR formalities. I was 20 minutes early from the appointment time, 4 in line but didn't wait for more than 5 mins to be called. Superb efficiency.

Very quick process, check passport & IC, verify original documents, iris scan and collect 2 thumbprint scan. Note the passport size photo cannot be glossy, you can get 4 pieces matte for $6 at various shops behind ICA building (wouldn't miss it as they have aggressive staff)

After signing some documents, paying various fees (VISA/MasterCard/Contactless accepted even though the IPA letter states only NETS/Cashcard), you will get Form 5A (Entry Permit), Form 7 (REP) and brand new NRIC number which you can make an appointment (the next day) to collect the NRIC card. You will also get 2 PR guide booklets to go with your new PR status.

Good luck man! No need to check CPF since you will get a new NRIC for that if successful.

Wanabe,
We've (I've) mentioned the fast tracking that is often available to Malaysian Chinese trying to come to Singapore and gain PR. We don't normally use that information in our general answers because you cannot find it on the MOM or ICA websites. It's the same as Malaysians gaining EPs with only salaries of 2400~2600/mo salaries if holding a decent degree (or a Singapore based degree).

One tell tale sign that Malaysians in general are handled differently is the fact that (from what I recall) the forms ask for Malaysia ID details. That is a dead giveaway.

Did you study in SG before? Or you apply for PR directly after 6 months of stay in SG.

Low chance. Doesn't mean no chance, but ethnicity is not in your favour

How old are you and your wife?

I stand by my original observation. I think the chance is low.
Your age also stands against you.
