I am a Malaysian-Chinese female working professional looking for a private room in either an HDB flat or a small house or apartment. My budget is between $550 - $800/mo. Ideal location is in MacPherson, Paya Lebar, Eunos, or Ubi areas. I've looked on sites like ., 99.co, rentinsingapore and many more but have no luck thus far. Almost looking for 2 months now, any advice on other sources I can use aside from websites?

Think the problem is the budget. If you stretch out more the choices should be better and more. And with this budget it would be rather impossible to get a whole house.

The OP has said they are looking for a room, not a house .
And in the areas mentioned, it is very much possible to get a room in an HDB in that budget. A full 2-bedroom HDB in Macpherson can be rented for anywhere between 1700-2300, as many of the blocks are a bit dated and on the smaller side, spacewise. So a sublet room for 600-800 is sensible. I live in that area.

Another good option is to get the mesh net from Daiso and cable tie them up where the windows are. Unsightly but solves the bird issues.
