Living in Sentosa or Orchard

Post by muskanarora » Tue, 18 Feb 2020 8:43 pm

I shortlisted to these 2 locations, one is laid back and the other is a buzzling city. Has anyone lived in any of these districts, can you share your experience living there?

I would favour Orchard for its convenience and central location, easy to get to most places quick and easy. And Sentosa for retirement. Both are very different places, so you would need to weigh your preferences and needs. For Sentosa, I think accessibility is an issue so you might want to think about daily transportation and commutes. And for vehicles they cap driving speeds at 50km/hr within Sentosa. Quite slow..imo.

I staying at River Valley area, just 200m outside orchard road. I would say this is a cool neighborhood to consider. As for sentosa, i wont recommend this place for family staying.

These are both vastly different locations. It all depends on what you’re looking for. If you are living alone or with a spouse and getting ready to retire, Sentosa is probably a much better option because of it’s laid-back, vacation-like environment. On the other hand, if you’re living with your family, orchard would be a much better option simply because of accessibility. Even if you can drive, it wouldn’t make sense to inconvenience the rest of the family by living somewhere so out of reach.

I would never choose Sentosa.

1. Very out of the way location
2. Very uppity/pretentious
3. Very mediocre/nothing special
4. Very high humidity/high mold

If you really want a laid back/resort atmosphere, Singapore is not the right place for you. At best, you will only get a small taste of that, and for the rest you’ll simply need to use your imagination.

Would be nice if government could improve the public transport within Sentosa.

Throw a stone and you’re likely to hit a millionaire at Sentosa Cove.

Busses that ply that route will find it loss making.
Just too few average Joes live there.

So it has to be subsidized by the gahmen. Why should they? Do you find any incentives for them to do so.

Normally I'd say because of the taxes they pay, but like most multi -M's they pay less taxes than the sandwich class because they can afford to set up their finances like most cannot.
