low chance except for his PHD from local uni, which MAY seem to make it a bit positive.
Thank you for your answer. But his PhD and his current work are not the same fields, should we wait for 1-2 years to apply? He has been working for 1 year now and in the current company for 9 months. I saw somewhere in the forum someone said that a person should work in the same company for at least 12 or 18 months to have a better chance. Is it correct?
You are classified as “Others”
Not impossible, just need a lot more effort.

My Korean friend + family got their approvals after 4-5 tries.

It will get harder this year, surely.

But take note, a recession will lead to scores of people leaving the country. PRs included.

I am of the opinion that in 2-3 years, assuming you are still in this country, it will be easier to obtain during the recovery phase.

Reason: there’s gap of PRs to plug back.

Caveat: Hugely dependent on the political situation. The online mob has a loud voice.
Deafening at times.
Yes, I'm aware that it's very hard, especially at this time. Will wait and try. Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts and information :)

Dear Experts

I'm currently holding an EP which will expire in Nov.21. I love it here in Singapore and have no plans to go back to Europe and I can see myself living here for the rest of my life. My idea was instead of applying for another EP next year try to get a PR. I'm definitely waiting for January so MOM sees my tax for the full year of 2020, not sure if it's required to wait for Mrz/Apr regarding the tax visibility. What you think are the chances and any recommendations?

Main applicant:
Gender - Male
Age - 29 years
Nationality: Swiss
Work: Cybersecurity private sector
Education: Bsc. Degree + Couple highly valued Industry certificates
Duration: November 2019 - Today
Work experience in CyberSec: 6y+, public speaker in public government-related events for cybersec (govware, govinsider)
Total salary: 180k+ (144k base, 36k commission in 2020 + RSU)
Pass: EP valid till Nov 2021.
Family: no children, no wife

Thanks a lot
Very Low Chance.
Reason - Ethnicity, short work duration in SG
can you elaborate please why you think Ethnicity is a problem and if the situation is way different in 2 years from your view.

Scour through this forum and you’ll find the statistics quoted by various members on how many PRs are given to Europeans/Caucasians each year. On top of that, some of this ‘quota’ are reserved for Caucasian spouse of a Singaporean. So that makes PTS even tougher.

For duration, you’ve not even clocked one full year in Singapore, how do you demonstrate to ICA that you’re in for the long run (hence the term permanent) and will not pack your bags, catch the first flight out the moment you land a job that pays you a few dollars more in HK or AU for example?

I would say absolutely no chance ... there has been a recent general election which foreigners (as usual) get bashed by locals. This in and of itself reduces your chance.
Singapore is not like some other countries where they value racial diversity. They value diversity, but only if it fits the current racial make up, which basically means you need to be 1. Chinese, 2 Indian and 3 Malay.
You will certainly find caucasian PRs but these typically fall into 3 categories: 1. they married a local; 2. they got theirs years ago; 3. they are really highly skilled/well paid.

So you can't address the ethnicity criteria (which is really important), you then need to address the other measurable criteria - salary and work duration. Bear in mind that since you don't meet the Chinese, Indian, Malay criteria, you will be competing against "others"... so that buddy of yours who has a master's degree, works for some kind of crypto, earning 500k a year base and applying for PR (we all have a friend like that!)... that's who you're competing against.
You're not competing against your colleague from mainland China - despite the fact they may be earning less than you, fulfils the ethnic criteria so is actually more likely to get it than you.

I would suggest waiting for a couple more years and wait for covid-19 to die down and the anti foreigner sentiment to ease (as it can do between elections), get a few more tax years under your belt.
Good luck in the meantime ...

of course, you could always marry a Singaporean :D

Salary is very low, but from what I've read in the forum Chinese Malaysians are viewed favourably as IIRC, there is no quota.

I would say that she should probably wait until she submits one tax return and then apply ... but others here might just say go ahead.

Just a diploma? I know Malaysian Chinese gets it easily, but I'm not sure whether every Tom, Dick and Harry qualifies.

Go ask her to study a part time degree or something.

Hihi,

She has been paying tax for a couple of years already..

Yeah, same mindset. We are currently pushing to go for part time degree too !

She has been with this company for the past 8 years. And as usual, the company wont apply for anything higher than wp if you dont request for it. The salary increments are slow as well, becos shes just finance administrative role. ):

I think she has to work on S Pass for atleast 2 years for her to have a good chance.

I’ll say no chance in the current climate. Worry about your job / EP. I don’t see why a Singaporean can’t do this role.

If you donate and volunteer not for PR yet you chose to bring it up in your post for? It’s a moot point. Investments too, they are to enrich yourself. Don’t think ICA cares too much.

Since you’ve decided to apply this year, just go ahead and I wish you luck. Downside is losing $100; upside is aplenty.

“For example, is an EP or S Pass applicant a replacement for a local who was only recently retrenched? If so, MOM will ask why and turn down the application unless there are very good reasons.”

That’s today’s news.
That itself will imply that we are going to see a huge spike in PR+ SC applications tonight.

In other words, your chances may decrease based on the sheer number of applicants from today onwards.

You’re competing within your own ethnic group.
