Hello everyone,

My local friends encouraged me to apply for PR, saying that I have a decent shot given that the government would want to retain talent in AI field, and that I also studied here, and may continue further education here. But after reading around and looking at posts here, I think the chances are slimmer than they appear to be. What would my chances be?

My background
- Age: 22
- Race: Chinese
- Nationality: Vietnam
- Gender: Male
- Marital Status: Single
- Education: NUS Computing (Computer Science)
- Industry: Tech Industry (AI / Machine Learning)
- Position: Data Scientist/ ML Engineer
- Job Experience: Fresh Grad, worked <1 year
- EP Pass holder
- Salary: 6k/month
- Lived in Singapore: from 2016
- I've got 3 years of Service Obligation Bond on Tuition Grant Scheme

I have a few other questions if you can help answer based on what you've seen:
- Would the company I work for the matter? I.e Google, Facebook, etc?
- If low chance, what are the main reasons? and when should I apply?
----- After how many years of working in SG?
----- Salary too low? What's a good range?
- If I'm considering doing a local Ph.D. in 2 years time, will that lessen my chances if I apply when I'm in the PhD program, given that during that time I'm not earning a decent income, and might not do so, during the 4-5 years I'm in the program. I know after the Ph.D., it is very likely to get it on the first try, based on people I know working at my company.
- If I give it a shot anyway and get rejected, will it hurt or strengthen my future apps.

Personally one of the main reasons why I would want to pursue a PR is the security it gives me if I were to found a startup/ take a break from my Ph.D. program and work on side projects.
Any thoughts? Should I give this a shot this year (if you've seen people in similar situations as me that worked), or it's pretty much impossible. Even if it is, and I get rejected, will it show a stronger will to stay when I apply later on. I'm concerned that if I'm in the PhD program, and the government is unlikely to grant me a PR because I'm not making any income, then I would have to wait another 4-6 years till I'll hold a proper job again. On the other hand, I might consider continuing to working some number of years (2-3), see if I can get PR or not, before deciding what course I should take.

Hi everyone!

I would like to confirm if its true that volunteering in non-government organization can help get PR for races belonging to “others”?

Thank you!

Hi everyone. New to forum and working towards a long term plan to settle in Singapore. Currently waiting for approval for PEP and the plan is to consider PR application in about a year but I wondered how our chances would be as of now - and what I can do to increase chances when we do apply in the future.

Me

Age: 42
Nationality: British
Race: Caucasian
Residential status: EP (but applying for PEP)
Education: BSc Life Sciences (UK University)
Working experience in SG: Since Feb 2017
Salary: 180K (basic) + Bonus
Industry: Market Research and Events
Position: Sales Director

Wife (we married in April 2019 in Singapore) - almost 2 years

Age: 28
Nationality: Indonesia
Race: Sundanese
Residential status: DP under my EP
Education: High School (partially completed degree which she may look to complete soon)
Working experience in SG: None

Kids - not yet but we would like to quite soon

Thanks for any opinions

Search the forum for volunteering. It has been discussed in many threads.

Thanks. Anything to work on to increase chances or do you think or is it stuff I can't work on like race, age etc?
