Need advice for my contested divorce

Post by kiya » Thu, 06 Feb 2020 4:29 pm

Hi, here is my story that need advice for my contested divorce.

We sign ROM in Singapore. It has been 4 years, my husband doesn't support our family financial properly due to his alcoholic behavior. He got fired from his jobs for three times. He is not getting better, always give executes. I cannot tolerate anymore. I ask him for divorce.

At first he say yes, so i contact law firm. The person in charge of my case is paralegal. Total fee for uncontested divorce is $1500 and I paid deposit $1000. We don't have complicated things to divide.

Our daughter is 7 years old and currently stay with my mother in my hometown since 2018. I support her now and will continue. If he is willing to support, i take. If not, i don't force him to support. Our hdb is bought by jointed account. We can divide 50/50.

After this agreement and documents are ready to sign, he refuse to sign. If this divorce is contested, fees will be 10K to 15K that what my PIC said. He no further explain.

I still want divorce but want to try less spending time and money. I did put myself under debt management program to ease monthly payment to settle my bank loan since 2018 and still continue.

I move out from our hdb due to his violence after documents are ready to sign. I already have personal protection order from judge. But don't dare to move in again

Please help to advice below

>>What are the specific things must confirm with lawyer before i proceed contested divorce?

>>What are the divorce procedure i must go through in this divorce?

>>Should i continue with this lawyer or change to other law firm? Understand that cost is depend on how the case proceed. But i still want to aware of the cost for certain process.

>>Is there any lawyer you can recommend?

Thank you

What is your visa status in Singapore? You could self represent.

I assume you are not muslim?
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

You might be able to negotiate to pay a solicitor out of the property settlement (i.e. sale of the HDB).
