PR with 1 year REP extension. Will marry Singaporean. Can extend REP next time?

Post by z3nn » Sun, 26 Jan 2020 5:46 am

Hi all. I am asking those who may have gone through a similar experience.

Worked in SG for 4 years (3 years as PR) and moved overseas for Master's. My REP was just renewed but only for a year. Now graduated but I still have to stay overseas because of work, but I am going to marry my Singaporean Fiancee soon. Will I be able to extend my REP in a year's time?

Stayed in Singapore since sec school. PR since 2013. No SG property. Will voluntarily contribute to CPF.

Thank you.

Suspect you’ll see greater chance if you actually live in Singapore.

Makes zero difference if you work outside, how Long do you actually stay when you visit anyway?

Yes if come back immediately and work in SG with a SC spouse, don't think there would be problems. I'm weighing my options because working overseas would be a good career move in my personal case.

She will continue to work in SG. I will come back to SG about once a month for a weekend. I do plan to come back and work in SG after two years.

According to your knowledge/experience If I lose the PR because REP not extended, would this affect SG spouse - sponsored LTVP / PR applications in the future? I won't touch my CPF.

Thank you.

Yes it will affect. If you want to be a resident you have to be a resident.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Thank you, PNGMK, BBCDoc.

One more question, in your experience & knowledge, would owning a HDB flat with your SC spouse make a difference in the REP renewal process?

Thanks

It shows an intent to reside for sure but I have no idea if it helps. The system has a definite auto-approve algorithm and then manual approval / rejection if auto approve fails. If you (which you will) end up in the manual queue then the more factors showing you intend to reside here and potentially progress towards SC the better off you are but as to the weighting for each factor? No one knows.
