Give up Singapore Citizenship after receiving AIP
Give up Singapore Citizenship after receiving AIP
Hi.
I just got my SC AIP last week and now I am having second thoughts if I really want to be a Singapore citizen.
What’s gonna happen if I pull out and let go the approval of SC at this stage? Can I still keep my PR? Would it affect my PR? Will they cancel my PR immediately? Or won’t be able to renew REP? I am sure there would be somebody who give up after receiving an AIP letter.
What do you think?
Will I regret? I don’t know..
My scenario:
Korean
Singaporean spouse with 2 kids
PR for 5 years
Working for the same MNC for past 7 yrs

1. In future if you want to apply for SC, it will be close to impossibleQawsedrf wrote: ↑Wed, 01 Jan 2020 12:59 amHi.

2. During your PR renewal, they may ask you to surely convert to SC
If you didnt want to become SC, why did you apply then? Sometimes, it is because of some people who are not serious, even others with real genuine intention do not get it.
Re: Give up Singapore Citizenship after receiving AIP
What is the disadvantage of not taking up SC? Is it because you have to surrender your Korean PP?

Re: Give up Singapore Citizenship after receiving AIP
Correct as Singapore doesn’t allow the dual citizenship.
Now my parents topic comes into the picture that I may need to go back to take care of them etc. and what if I want to go back after retirement..? Would it be better to leave the window open?
In addition, for me as having a Singaporean spouse, my benefit of being a PR is almost the same as SC, there are not dramatical benefits in comparison..

Did you never think about this when you applied? SC is a longterm commitment. I dont know how you applied for SC without thinking deep.Qawsedrf wrote: ↑Thu, 02 Jan 2020 11:01 amCorrect as Singapore doesn’t allow the dual citizenship.

I think your decision is correct not to pursue SC I personally don't think it will effect your long term PR issues.

Don't you have long term visas in SK? Many countries do have them.Qawsedrf wrote: ↑Thu, 02 Jan 2020 11:01 amCorrect as Singapore doesn’t allow the dual citizenship.

Personally I see that as a good call. The longer I spend here the less I want to be stuck here.
