Min Income for PR REP Renewal

Post by phoenix132 » Thu, 28 Nov 2019 2:46 am

Hi All,
Does anyone know is there any min monthly income level to get PR Re Entry Permit renewed? I can only find explicit limit stated for LTVP sponsorship (6K/month) and wondering can PR REP got renewed if monthly income is <6K if the person lives in SG and pay taxes + CPF?

Previously I got my PR via PTS scheme but after company downsize, I can't secure another corporate job. Right now, I'm self employed and running my own business with monthly income around 3.5-4K (it is ACRA registered business, I pay tax & pay voluntary CPF top up). Business revenue / sales turnover is around 140K / year.

Race: Malay
Age: 38
Duration in SG: 10 years (PR since 2017), currently stay in SG and never left unless for short 1-2 weeks vaca
Family status: me, wife, 1 son, 1 daughter are all PR (wife and kids got PR based on my sponsorship, wife is stay-at-home mom as our daughter is disabled, both kids are <7 yrs old)
Property: own condo in SG (which we are in progress to sell, after that planning to buy resale HDB)

I am aware from this forum that even if REP renewal got rejected; our family are still PR as long as we don't leave Singapore. However my worry is if REP doesn't get renewed then my son can't go to local school (because even registering to polyclinic, he is asked to show valid REP) while we don't have enough money to put him in International School.

I'm still applying for jobs & trying to grow my business further but I do wonder what will happen if in few years time when it's time to renew REP and my income is still around 3.5-4K/month. Based on my calculation, with my current savings + condo sale proceed, our family should still have enough to support ourselves; but it's just on paper I'm not making a lot of money.

Does anyone has any experience or perspective on what are the chances for my family's REP renewal? Thank you in advance.

From anecdotal evidence, ICA will renew the REP if the PR has gainful employment. The meaning of gainful is subjective but i believe it to mean on the same professional/technical level of employment that got them approved for PR. A PTS PR who was approved as an engineer may have problems with his REP if he becomes a F&B crew member, a clerk, or a shop/store employee. I have heard of many engineers who switched to finance / insurance / real estate and did not hear any issues with their REP.

OP - you will be ok. Main issue is that you're not at risk of becoming dependent on the state.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!
