For New Startups, Hire Freelance or Full Timers?

Post by benben.lim » Sat, 16 Nov 2019 1:26 pm

Hello,

My name is Ben, and I'm from Jakarta, Indonesia. To the point, I have a client in Indonesia who is planning to start a new startup in Singapore and he asks my company's to setup all the stuff.

This client asked me one question that I'm not sure about to answer:

In Singapore, for a new startup, is it better to hire more freelancers or full-timers at the beginning?

He prefers full timers, but he concerns due to small population in Singapore it would be difficult for him to find full-time employees. For information, his business is related to software development and mobile apps, so types of employee he needs is like programmers, designers, tester, sort of.

Any insight or stats maybe?

Thank you before! :-D

P.S.
I'm new here and this is my 1st post. I've tried my best to read forum's rules, but If this post violates the rules, feel free to delete.

If he has deep enough pockets, a core of full-timers would probably be his best bet. Then adding additional free-lancers to make up any shortfall. Without a core of full-timers, you will be at the disadvantage when dealing with free-lancers without sufficient full-time staff to keep running the company. Use free-lancers to take up the slack during busy periods.
