Hi I was issued a stern warning after shoplifting a month back. I had an item with me by mistake after paying for other items but the security did not listen to me and called the police who after recording my statement in which I mentioned that the small item <60$ value was taken by me by mistake and I am ready to pay for it said that I will only be issued a stern warning with no charges and no arrests. But I need to sign the letter if I want to avoid prosecution - the letter was straightforward and said this is not a criminal record and does not affect your legal rights and liabilities. I was very scared at that time because I was on SVP and alone I had come to interview at that time. I have NEVER been in any run in with the law in any country and I am fairly well travelled. Now I have a great job offer in Singapore and my employer will start my EP process but now I am scared that it might be an adverse record which will ruin my chances. Also, is there a way that I can deny this stern warning now because now I feel like I should have taken legal advice before. Very confused. Any relevant response/sharing of personal story will be very helpful

Looks like it was a warning and it wont affect your EP Application. Just my personal view and I may be wrong.

I know if someone in similar condition but has consistently got EP approved for the past many years. It surely does not effect the approval on your EP application. So just relax

You friend is not in similar conditions to any of the others mentioned thus far. Your friend is on an Employment pass during an election year with foreigners being targetted AND in the middle of an Economic & Pandemic crisis here. I'd say your friend will be damned lucky to get off with a warning after 6 expats on EPs just had their passes revoked over close distancing rules. I think I'd be getting Plan B ready if I were in your friend's shoes.

Singapore doesn't give many second chances. We are not the judge - Singapore is.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or

Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!
