Chances of SC: Chinese male PR

Post by HarleyQuinn » Wed, 13 Nov 2019 1:25 am

Hi all, I am new here.

Basic information:
  • Chinese (born in China) male, age 27.
  • Married with a Chinese PR, but applied SC alone, not with family.
  • Have been staying in Singapore for 10 years and become PR since July 2016.
  • NUS degree holder + NUS master candidate
  • 4+ years of working experience in Singapore, basic salary 3800+, annual package 55k.
  • Applied on 1 Jan 2019, pending for 11 months now.
Please help evaluate the chances of SC approved, and most importantly, when will gonna be approved. As we have a very urgent need to buy HDB. Any suggestion is appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

Difficult to get it approved. ICA people can read all your evil thoughts. If buying HDB is the only reason you want to apply for Citizenship, the ICA officer will be able to tell and for sure your application wont be approved.

On a serious note, you should have bought a HDB flat with your wife as a PR. This shows your commitment to stay in Singapore for long term, and not only buy one after you get citizenship. As you dont have any roots here (since u are not born here), not so easy to get it approved. But its hard to say, because apparently it seems like chinese are favoured.

Thank you for your response. No kids, not pregnant. I was told by friends that similar conditions with single, or married with another SC, or apply with a kid will have a very high chance of approval. Not sure of Married person apply alone.

Thanks for your reply.

Buy HDB flat first is a good idea, the only reason can’t do that is wife obtained PR one year ago, still need to wait two more years for two PRs to be eligible to buy HDB.
For the long term commitment to stay in Singapore, if it helps, both of us are on university Scholarship and still serving our bonds.

But bonds can be broken, i also think it is not a very good way to assure ICA of your commitment. But the advantage is, that you are chinese with a proper education. Got chance for sure.

Married and filing without spouse? If I was ICA Officer I'd have to think about it. Why would anybody apply without their spouse? Something does not connect all the dots.

Due to our single child policy, we have to consider how to take care of our parents. It's not possible for two Singaporeans take care of four Chinese parents.

Based on that premise then it's not possible for 1 Singapore to take care of two Chinese parents. Still same problem, neh?

On culture side, the daughter-in-law has to take care of Chinese parents on behalf of her husband.

What does that have to do with applying for PR? or SGC? The obligation, culturally, still remains regardless of your immigration status, does it not? And the refusal to apply as a family looks like something isn't quite right. Good Luck. I hope you have a plan B.
