I've learned that all Singapore taxis are diesel powered. What is amazing about this is that they don't stink like a typical diesel truck and they don't emit smoke and black soot, the particulate matter.
Anybody know why that is?

Singapore Taxis
The taxis are diesel. Modern diesel engines when mantained properly, shouldn't do any of those things you have suggested. They are also run 18-24 hours daily, keeping operating temperature where they should be, thus maximising fuel combustion. Smelly and smoky diesel engines are eeither cold or poorly taken care of. Only guessing here, but I woould think that Singapore emisssions control are pretty strict.
