Can a WP holder return to Singapore 1 week after WP expires for holiday?

Post by keselo » Tue, 15 Oct 2019 7:30 pm

Hi,

I am asking on behalf of my friend.
Her WP expires on 22nd Oct and she wants to return to Singapore on Nov 6th for holiday for around 1 week.
Can she do that?
Will she be blocked?
This is her first time coming to Singapore on WP.

You get an automatic 28 (30?) day social visit on cancellation but I dont know if that is single entry or not. If she is in the country she doesnt have to leave, if she is out of the country I would check with ICA

If you are a work permit holder you can get up to 14 days before you have to be out of Singapore. The flight must be purchased by the Employer and it's the Employer's responsibility to get the employee to the airport and through immigration. Again, Maximum time between cancellation of WP an flight is 14 day and no extension allowable. It's not the same as S and EP passes, where you get 30 days and you make your own way out of the country unless repatriation is in your contract.

Before cancelling
You need to:

Seek tax clearance from the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS).
Settle all outstanding employment issues, such as paying of salary.
Ensure that your worker has a valid passport.
Buy a direct air ticket to the international airport in the worker’s home country, nearest to the hometown:
You must pay for the air ticket and it must include check-in luggage.
The departure date must be within 2 weeks from the cancellation.
If there are no direct flights, you and your worker should discuss and agree on the following, before buying the air ticket:
The transit arrangement, such as connecting flights and layover hours.
The amount of allowance to sustain your worker during the transit.

So assuming departure is a couple of days max from cancellation on the 22nd back to her home country. If she can get a visa in time and probably a week between departure from Singapore to arrival back in Singapore she should be able but it might be close. And no, no extensions will be allowed after the 14 days.
