Expats behaving badly
Expats behaving badly
There are certain expats who are not, shall we say, model visitors to this city. This is a thread to share stories about them so hopefully we can all be better.
Australian throws empty wine bottle out of window and kills someone:
https://mothership.sg/2019/09/andrew-go ... ts-bottle/
Expats eating and drinking on the MRT:
https://www.asiaone.com/singapore/onlin ... e-netizens
Both examples of the "we are better than the locals" mentality.

Re: Expats behaving badly
This is hilarious. British guy talks shit on the MRT, then gets terrified when a local confronts him. Gets off at the next stop while other passengers tell him to go back to his own country.

Re: Expats behaving badly
What is causing people to act out?
Expats sometimes learn the hard way that what they will be punished for acts that they would likely
get away with back in Australia, the UK or the US. Of course, there are other instances where
someone is simply caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's not something the government wants widely reported. Nothing to see here folks, please resume your regular program of work, shop and eat.

Re: Expats behaving badly
On the one hand, all these expats are awful (and one a murderer, who I hope gets a very lengthy sentence - if not the death penalty). On the other, clicking on the YouTube videos, you read streams of racist comments. In fact, are there any other countries where "foreigner commits mild anti-social act' is a news genre? No-one comes across well. Everyone is awful.
Re: Expats behaving badly
Hong Kong is worse, they even have a derogatory name in Cantonese for foreign devils. I don't have a big problem with natives throwing insults if foreigners show up in their country and act like a$$holes.

Re: Expats behaving badly
I do not see the wisdom for those citizens from the free world to settle in SG. Unless you have married a local spouse and tied down by family. And if you are a westerner and single checking out the dating scene there, think twice about things like cultural differences/ affinity. Not to mention the very physical attribute of the Caucasian stick out like a sore thumb and you become a fair game for these passive aggressive locals. Their tuft, their rule.

Re: Expats behaving badly
With the stress of Covid it will get worse.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!
