Roughly 50kg in half a year.
I had ups and downs but maintaining my weight now at around 85kg. I would not call it stable unfortunately. Singapore has too much good food to offer.
That is so impressive, half a year?! I try not to weigh myself too often, and rather just go by how I look, feel, and doctor’s advice. The food in Singapore is just too tempting, and for the most part not the healthiest. Whenever I’ve gone on a weight loss kick, I’ve had to resort to cooking my own meals, so I could control what was going into each dish. Cravings were hell but the results were worth it.

I find it helpful to establish permanent healthy eating routines. One way I have done this is by eating only oatmeal for breakfast at least 3-4x per week. This is sustainable for me because I genuinely like oatmeal. I have kept this going for at least 8 years now. The whole grains digest slowly and keep me satisfied until lunch.
Definitely. Establishing a balanced diet is so important. It’s one thing to lose weight through dieting, but go back to your old eating habits and you’ll gain all the weight back, and then some.

The book I shared is written by an MD, Jason Fung. Read the reviews. He is a kidney specialist and has written books like "Diabetes Code" and "Cancer Code". He runs a clinic which uses Fasting as way to cure Chronic Diseases. The least u can do is get the kindle version and see how to lose weight. Its only possible with reducing Insulin in body through fasting/low carb diet and not thru calorie deficit or exercise.
Calorie deficit can make u thin at a price.

Google Dr Eric Westman of Duke Univ.
Google Dr Ken Berry .

See for yourself if it makes sense.

If your body need 1800 calories, you have two options:

1. Eat carb rich food but 1500 calories n go to gym which is unsustainable and unhealthy .

2. Eat 1800 calories but low carb and rich in fat/protein. Trust me, you will lose weight the moment you dumb carbs.

Calories from Carb is not the same as Calories from Fats. Calories from Carb is what keeps Insulin high, causes chronic diseases and obesity.

You dont need Calorie deficit if calories are not from carbs n sugar.

Well, I just put it this way. x9200 and I have had this discussion several time both online and offline and while our methods were different (but not substantially). We were BOTH extremely successful in our weight loss. I forgot how much x9200 lost the first time but it was considerable. I lost 26 kg in 22 weeks. I started the lifestyle change at the age of 60.5 years and finished the weightloss portion of the change 22 weeks later 6 weeks before by 61st birthday. In the process I went from a 40" waistline back down to a 32" waistline and from 94kg down to my military discharge weight in July 1968 of 69kg. I was actually lower that what my doctor/dietician (he's actually a cardiologist MD from SA) set the diet up to achieve, (70~71kg) and I did find it too low so stabilized it at 72kg which was my former 'fighting' weight. Stayed there for over 4 years and then started getting lazy (snacking late a night). Packed 15 lbs back on in 12 months. So 6 years after I finished the diet, I went back on the same diet for 3 months and got rid of it and back down to 72. Now I got to go back on it again.

By the way, at the beginning of the diet I was on lovastatin (Cholesterol), Atenolol & Losartan for HBP & Alopurinol for gout. 2 weeks after the diet, my local physician discontinued all my medications and told me I had the body stats of a 40 year old. Needless to say, at 61 I was a pretty happy chappie, and it was the first time I'd been off medications for around 15 years. My diet was a balanced diet except it was low carb (read virtually NO carbs). I'm about to embark on it for the 3rd time as Covid and retirement really disrupted my activity for the past 2 years.
Exactly. Weight loss is not possible unless you are consuming a balanced diet, and in smaller quantities, i.e caloric deficit.

If your only “source” is a page of amazon reviews, that is seriously worrying. Google “Is caloric deficit the only way to lose weight?”.

lol, no one can help those who are not open to new ideas. why dont u read that book instead of googling.

wt loss is about lowering insulin which is about low carb n fasting.

do u know why Intermittent Fasting works ? cuz it lowers insulin which results in burning fats.

u know why low carb works, cuz it lowers insulin. that is why calories from Fats and Protein are not as bad as calories from Carbs. why, cuz carbs raise sugar n then body produces Insulin. and Insulin stores fat.

this is all one needs to understand. and then focus of eating food which keeps Insulin low. that's why keto and Low Carb high fat works. that's why Intermittent fasting works.

its simple science. but trust me, 90% of people won't get it.

Good luck to ur Calorie Deficit Programme :) NEVER WORKS

I found it easier if I do it faster. I need to see the weight going down and this is what motivates me tremendously (basically 150-300g/day at the 2nd, low burning stage). Besides, if I cut the amount of food significantly it takes ca 1 week and all the cravings disappear. But such rapid weight lost is not necessarily the best approach. As mentioned, one really needs to supplement what is missed and critical from food. One should also exercise - the skin have problems to keep up with that rate. So pluses and minuses as usual. And what was also I think not mentioned earlier - I think it is more difficult in a tropical climate. After all, the body needs less fuel to maintain the temperature.

Same here, hence why I’ve always approached weight loss with a very result oriented approach. Working out for months and eating clean is painful, but when you see the results it really keeps you going.

Insulin will spike no matter what you eat. Just saying. Losing weight is about calories in vs out. Anything else that falls under this rule is fine tuning.

Hello there, :D :)

Just a mini small sharing of mine (it might work or it doesn't), I am currently using this method to maintain my weight and body figure due to the busy work-life that I have. When you are working, you just don't have dedicated time to workout or exercise.

Maybe your friend can start small steps, like baby steps to tune her body like:
1. Reduce the rice portion
2. Eat 3 vegetables
3. Slowly reduce the amount for lunch and dinner
4. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT snack during working hours
5. If possible, climb stairs to office HAHAH it worked for me in keeping myself 'fit'
6. Drink a much water at least 3.5ml
7. Cut down on sweet drinks (like limit at least 1 cup of sweet drink per day)

Results might not be visible in 1 month but it takes time and helps to cultivate this habit/eating lifestyle for your body to adjust. Hope this helps!

All great tips, but more for weight maintenance rather than weight loss.

Depending on the starting point, those tips will work for weight loss too. Weight loss equals calories burned are greater than the calories inputted. It's really not much more than that.

Some things that helped me lost 7kg over the last year:

1) switch from after work beers to 1-2 glasses of wine with dinner (calorie deficit, don’t eat fries, wings and fish skin before dinner)
2) take up cycling early in the morning (moving for more hours of the day)
3) eat vegetarian dinner 2x per week. Another way to do it as Asians is to eat the veg and meat first, and rice last.
4) eat more fresh fruit

The one thing I can’t stop is snacking while I work...

This is a gradual weight loss but integrated into my lifestyle now. For weight crash, you will need something more aggressive

Have done well to significantly reduce my muffin top. Need to get my health check done...

Cutting out beer is very effective for weight loss. The way I stopped snacking at work was to avoid the office pantry altogether. Out of sight, out of mind.

One way to control hunger pangs if possible is to drink espressos. I used this method years ago when on an extreme low carb diet. But you have to be careful about what time of day you do it. Too close to bedtime and your sleep will be affected.
