Hi. Just wondering if any Singaporean has had both a Male and female child born overseas but only chose to apply for SG citizenship for the girl and not the boy? If so, did doing so have any negative impact on the boy's subsequent application for visas or general travel/entry to SG?

I think it will be better to apply for both, in case in future, they will have alot of question.

Then which pass you’re going to put the boy under? Student pass? LTVP?
I reckon PR is out of question. Anyway I dare say your intention is to dodge the NS obligation.
The boy will most likely never get his EP approved when the time comes.

Search my replies. I just replied to somebody again in the past week.
Here is an earlier posting which came up first in my search:

You don't want to do. If you deliberately do it to avoid NS, you son may just grow up to hate you for sabo'ing his life. In fact, you question sounds almost exactly like my example with the exception that one parent was the father (SGC) with an Eastern European wife (PR). The Father is a business owner (my former boss) and a card carrying PAP member who, 10 years ago, was being courted for an potential MP in one of the Western GRCs (which I'll not name).

Thanks for all the info so far and the link provided, very useful indeed! My son is already a citizen of the country we live in. I am a SG citizen and my husband a foreigner. We intend to live here for the foreseeable future and we are happy with this decision as it is unfair to expect him to serve NS later having never lived in SG. We don't intend on applying for his PR or LTV etc. We will just get him a tourist visa every time we visit and that's fine for us. So my question was actually about whether we would have any trouble getting him a tourist Visa to SG or for him to enter SG when we do travel? As it is at present, we get stopped at immigration every time we enter SG and get taken to a side counter where we are questioned about whether we have applied for his Citizenship/PR and whether we intend to in the future etc. Same process every single time.
We just had our daughter recently and was exploring the option of applying for SG citizenship for her. If it does negatively impact our son, we are happy for her to take on the foreign citizenship instead.

Personally if you don't intend for your children to move to Singapore as minors I would not bother with citizenship for them in Singapore. Focus on their education and careers and if Singapore is a logical move then it should be possible to obtain an EP at the time.

In all likelihood, you son will eventually be banned from entering Singapore. What his is doing is commonly referred to as Visa Runs. Big Red Flag as you are finding out already. They will obviously up the ante sooner or later. Good Luck. Your constant bringing him here on visits and you not giving up your SG citizenship shows your intent. I think it's not going to be if, but when. Hope I'm wrong.

I think Madam Kaur is not doing that from what I read. But yes, not a good idea to do to many visits each year.

I agree, it is not really Visa Runs but I couldn't think of a better name for the abuse that is going on.

I mean, they are already on to them/him.

Thanks for all your responses, as before it is so useful to explore so many different angles to this!
To be fair, the last immigration officer explained that we will be subject to this additional step every time as they need to be sure that if we do apply for his PR and it is granted while we are actually travelling to SG that he doesn't enter on a visa instead.
I am more skeptical than I initially was but it is also the right of both our children to have the citizenship of both countries so why should one decision affect the other (I mean I know why in this case but find it so unfair).

Your son absolutely has a right to citizenship of Singapore; subject to him doing NS and Singapore being his only citizenship once he turns 21. Your daughter also has a right to Singapore citizenship subject it being her sole country of citizenship post 21. We are not saying otherwise.

SMS is right, by excluding your second child (assuming he is male) you make your intentions very clear.
