Haze in Singapore

Post by abbby » Wed, 18 Sep 2019 12:24 am

One moment from indoors, it looks fine, no burnt smells, but the moment I am outdoors, tall buildings look very hazy. But PSI's below 100. What's going on?

Is it generally alright to go outdoors below 100 PSI?

Annual burning of rain forest in Indonesia to make way for yet more palm oil plantations. Government says they will stop it but never do because of deep and endemic corruption at every level.

Buy your own air quality monitoring station. Plenty of them on Lazada and Aliexpress in the sub SGD100 range. They are reasonably reliable. Ensure it measures at least PM 2.5, preferably also PM 10 and TVOC.

The PSI readings are reactive, rather than proactive. They don't forecast haze conditions, but take averages of the past 24 hours, amongst other paramaters.

When the winds shift, the haze situation outside can change pretty abruptly, but the PSI will need some time to reflect this.

Basically, the PSI readings don't necessarily match the air quality at any given moment. They tend to lag a bit.

Yes...seems like PSI readings are not that accurate in determining the haze level. Today forecast says unhealthy but looks good on my side..looks like I need to head to Lazada.

Haze really bad at the moment where I live, but it's because of a Taoist Funeral Bonfire sending all the bamboo & paper assets to the deceased outside my window in the parking lot. :-(

Yeah, I reckon the deceased wasn't all that happy either. ;-)
