MINDEF Contact

Post by teck21 » Tue, 17 Sep 2019 11:14 am

Hi all, especially MS if he's still frequents this board.

I have a relative who emigrated several years ago, and now they all have citizenship there. Her son is approaching the age of 13 and the time has come for them to commence the process of proper deferment and eventual renunciation of his Singapore citizenship.

Of course information is scarce as to who she should actually contact, so any information or pointers in that direction would be helpful.

Thank you.

If MS doesn't respond then start by directly contacting CMPB.

I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Yes, many thanks. CMPB would be a better body to contact than Mindef proper.

I'll head over in person if an email doesn't suffice.

MS,

Thanks for that. She reached out to them via that avenue and they have been rather helpful.

The instructions they have given do seem at odds with much of what I've read here over the years though. But something to go on is better than nothing to go on.

That is entirely possible. Singapore gahment always changing tactics to prevent the creation of a playbook to avoid NS. But at least you have a starting point. Do us a favour and keep a blog/dairy of what/where/who/when as you go through this thing and then let us know so we can upodate our knowledge base and pass it forward as needed (you already know the drill as you are an old-timer just like us on the back-end here.

OK, you need to decipher it before you can understand. This is usually a standard SOP drill by the front line.
Compile what has been said by email from them and compare what you have gather from here.
Make sure everything must be documented for future reference
If you can speak to the second line personnel will be better. Do this when you hit a brick wall for the first group

Thanks guys. Will do, she is currently back and in the process of filling out a form that they will use to assess eligibility for deferment / exemption. Mostly the questions one can expect to be asked.

Will update as it unfolds. Currently at a glacial pace.
