Sounds low. Including bonus you are only getting $42K/year.

As to whether you can get a better job, what type of qualifications and work experience do you have?

Have you tried the major companies in the marine industry in Singapore? My impression is that they are short of engineers. That said, this is what I heard from other people only.

6000 SGD.. worth considering?

Post by arnie_b » Thu, 19 Jun 2008 2:09 pm

Is S$6000 p.m for a IT project manager with 9 years in the industry worth considering if wife is not earning? No housing allowance and other frills.

Well for sure with a $6k/month salary in Singapore you won't be able to afford 2 cars and a driver! Maid can lah.

arnie_b : My advice stay back in Bangalore. A $6000pm salary is not enough if you are single earning. Forget the 2 cars you may not be able to afford the rent in a half decent condo.

In short you will be no where near the $4000pm lifestyle that you have in Bangalore now.

After reading this I think salaries in Singapore must be really quite varied. My sis is a Pri sch teacher (non-Grad) and she takes home only $1900 per month. My brother just started work (1st class honours Biz Ad Grad) for a year and he has already passed the 5K mark (civil servant). His wife is also a Pri Sch teacher (but Grad) and she takes home almost as much as he does.

Friends who used to be at the U with me (meaning we're in our mid-30s) if they are civil servants take home around 6-8K, private sector IT about 5K, chemical engineer 12K, human resources in a foreign bank 14K...If both in a couple are working, the standard of living can be quite decent as such. But I can understand why we are recruiting "foreign talent" if the salaries announced in this forum are usually less than 100K per annum. Quite worth it getting quality foreign help as such. But then if you do not live in subsidised HDB housing or have a housing package, it can eat quite a bit into your salaries.

What jobs in Singapore will allow one to earn 400K per annum before tax, please?

You're getting into the rareified stratosphere when you get into those numbers. General managers and managing directors of large MNC's are in that range, as are specialist consultants on contract.

And I imagine they also get housing allowances and private school paid for?

Trying to see if I could find a job for the spouse in Singapore and come home for a while...
