About 100 - 200K depending on many things, such as junior VP to Senior VP (these are often not published or even discussed with you but you will be ranked) as well as where you come from, your race and what is your current salary (hard to get more than 25% increase even if coming from a developing country background).

Notice I didn't put experience first? Singapore is a funny place. I was earning similar to my single peers and they were rich, while I was struggling to pay bills with 2 kids in International School and it actually makes sense in this environment.

Thanks Ref. That is more or less the same as my experience here.

Also your comments about single friends here are very familiar. My childless friends here feel like they have a very high quality of life. I'm less sure, similar to you a huge chunk of my salary is taken up by International School fees. Entirely my own fault, buy that is what will ultimately be the pinch point that forces us to leave Singapore.

Hi,

I've been approached for a Senior Product Manager position with a Tech MNC in Singapore. I will be a foreign hire. It's a bit of a specialised position, I don't think it's been easy for them to fulfill the role. Interviews have progressed well and I'm just waiting on the offer.

As background, I'm Australian, with 10+ years industry experience, and a relevant undergrad and post grad from top AU Universities. Currently my total rem package is AUD $160k plus (and they know this).

I'm married (spouse has transferable skills) with a baby, and have been verbally told they will support relocation from the start.

Given they approached me, and the fact that it's a specialised position, I would assume I have more leverage than most. From my research I'm not expecting a full expat package, but if anyone else has been in/heard of a similar position - what were you able to negotiate as a foreign hire?

As a general yardstick I may expect 20% above curent

Don't think of less taxes here or spouse can get a job

Thanks, I'm hoping for 20% uplift as well, and at minimum - relocation once-offs (visa assistance, temp housing, shipping costs, disturbance allowance, relocation agent etc) and equalisation to AU work (eg 20 days holiday). Will push hard for medical insurance ongoing and potentially some level of childcare support. I think it's less likely I'll get ongoing accommodation support and any transport allowance (local car and flights home). These last few appear to be reserved for Execs and full expats packages...

Your expectations sound about right. Medical coverage is very standard here, so don't let them tell you that it's a special benefit. Do look at the coverage though, many company insurance policies here are pretty poor in terms of limits on outpatient expenses for example, which will rack up with a baby.

Accommodation allowance is possible, but they'll factor that into your total package anyway - ie if you do get that it'll probably mean a lower salary.

Agreed re flights home and a car. Cars are very rare, flights home less so.

Medical must cover Out patient, and Basic Surgery.

However, you can try to negotiate for family cover, as Medical for foreigners can be expensive. How Expensive ? A delivery can set you back 100,000 if there are complications, and not even major complications.

Good Luck.

PS, I do know an employer who offered the same Salary in SG vs Sydney, saying the taxes are cheaper here.

Not sure how that works, PNGMK may be able to chime in there.

Thanks - the comment on medical insurance being reasonably common lines up with my initial research - it sounds like Singapore based offices have taken their cue from U.S policies. But yes, I would argue for family cover strongly given the decent public health here in Aus (nevermind that we opt-in for Private). A second child is a possibility so we would definitely research maternity benefits.

If accommodation allowance is generally built into total salary it sounds like it would be better to push for the cash, as it would be easier to argue for YoY increase, and they wouldn't be able to use any decline in housing market to influence this.

If they were to just offer the same salary as AU I'd likely decline, so I'm in a stronger position there. But a bump in salary, combined with at least some of the perks and lower tax will leave us in a healthy position.

In my experience, family cover is usually included. Doesn't make any difference to them really, each category (eg outpatient) will include your family, but will be capped at a limit each year. So you should expect family to be covered, but make sure the caps are sensible.

Maternity is a very good point, and we'll worth pushing for.

Hello, I'm new to Singapore and new to this forum. It's a nice city. A little warm but I'll get used to it. My dad got a job here and my family relocated from Canberra. School is starting next Feb for me. In the meantime, I'm thinking of working part time and getting to know the culture here a little more. I'm 19. May I know what kind of jobs I can find here that don't require a long term commitment and how should I go about applying for it? Thanks.

Hey guys,

I have received a job offer of S$7000 + S600 of benefits like gym or health and fitness and decent medical insurance. I have a total of 6+ years of relevant experience in my field. Is it a good enough salary? I will be living by myself. Is renting a condo upto S$2500 makes sense with this kind of monthly income?

Thanks.

Its actually quite easy to get a job as a 19yo on a DP, but only with the right employers.

I know of some jobs going in pubs where they are happy to hire expats on a DP (thats putting it politely - they are happy to hire anyone with a pulse that is legal to work) as there has been such a clampdown on low end F&B passes. The pay is not great but it is a heck of a lot more than sitting at home earning nothing.

That's a good call. Great way to meet people and be social as well. Wish I were a 19yr old guy in Singapore :)

Hi everyone,

Need a little bit of advice. So I am 3.5 years (25 years old) experienced Software developer from India currently serving my notice period in a very well known software company in Bangalore. My current take home salary in India is 23,00,000 INR per year.

I have a couple of offers in Bangalore of the range 29,00,000 INR(base pay + bonus, well-established startup) and also an offer in Singapore for about 90k SGD (base pay, no bonus, Series A startup). Which should I take up monetary wise etc?

After a lot of research, 90k SGD looks good considering I am single, but if I am thinking about the future, this amount does not even compare to my 29 LPA, IMO.

Also, I have a couple of offers from Estonia/Sweden for about 50-55k Euro, but considering the tax rates, I am not keen on it. Is that a correct decision?

Please advice.
