Can I teach my son to drive on public roads in Singapore

Post by PNGMK » Sat, 14 Sep 2019 10:21 am

I am not a registered driving instructor. This is common back in Australia but I don't think here and I assume for legal reasons?
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Driving instructor needs to be licenced.

From https://www.police.gov.sg/resources/tra ... e/motorcar:

You need to engage a licensed driving instructor who must be seated beside you while learning driving at all times. The vehicle used for your lesson should display two 18cm square 'L' plates, in a conspicuous position on both the front and back of the vehicle. The vehicle has to be insured against third-party risk, driving tuition and the practical tests.

You can proceed to take your driving lessons after obtaining the Provisional Driving Licence (PDL).

The authorized driving centres have structured driving lessons and competent driving instructors to train your driving skills.

Are there any non-public areas (private) where I can provide tuition? For example there used to be an off road park in Tuas for motorbikes and 4x4 and I know an area in Tampines that would work for motorbikes but I can't think of anywhere for cars (the old Nat Stadium used to be a safe area but I don't believe it is now).

How about in behind the old turf club? Or the roads around the horse center and golf range off Eng Neo?

Also, drive up into JB. Get away from the main areas and there are lots of rural roads to drive on.

Technically still illegal even in a deserted car park. But as long as no one complains or if not found out, it shouldn't be a problem.

This personal guidance is to save costs?

Probably because it is the way most Aussies and Yanks learn how to drive. :-)
